isnt there a video of him talking about how much him and his friends made from it? its not really an accusation at this point, he manipulated the market.

[–] DistressedDad@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago

I don't see how any of this matters.

He is literally and figuratively above the law. He will face zero consequences.

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

Should have stuck to simple, safe insider trading like the other guys do. Always with the flashy showing off.

100%, its incredibly obvious.

No, I was watching the bond market. The bond market is very tricky. I was watching it, but if you look at it now, it’s — it’s beautiful. The bond market right now is beautiful. But, yeah, I saw last night where people were getting a little queasy.”

Hard to believe these are US Presidential quotes. Sounds more like some teenage barista smoking pot.

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 38 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Don't shit on teenagers smoking pot by comparing them to Trump lol

[–] Jenpocalypse@lemmy.world 34 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Even the people smoking pot know he's an idiot who doesn't know what he's doing.

Source - I smoke pot.

He made the announcement at 1:18, but there was a high volume spike in SPY at 1:02. He then introduced some friends, like Charles Schwab, in the white house later and said they had made billions. This crash was also the first time MTG bought stocks.

Should be an SEC investigstion with actual consequences for once. Probably won't be, but there should.

[–] TheProtagonist@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Hasn't Elon fired most of the SEC staff, to make sure they don't get in their way...

[–] spicehoarder@lemm.ee 11 points 1 day ago

Hahaha an SEC investigation? I haven't seen a single working class win at the federal level for about 16 years now

[–] Red_October@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

With all of the absolutely blatant market manipulation he's done just since he took office, one more charge isn't going to mean shit when there haven't been any consequences yet, and probably won't be any time soon if ever. Anyone else breaking the law this openly and this often would in the very least be in jail without bail awaiting trial, if not already firmly in prison.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 54 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Yeah, no shit. His first term was 100% him playing golf and using the treasury as his personal piggy bank, why the fuck would we expect anything different this time around? Wake me up when someone actually does something about it.

100% he is making bank off this. So are his buddies. What DOGE was all about, setting up the US Gov't to be fleeced as a cash cow for the crime family. We need these criminals removed and full security audit on our entire gov't computer system. Every US citizen is currently at risk due to negligence but these fools. That doesn't even cover the extensive list of civil rights violations and oh...you know, constitution violations. But it matters not unless the are actual consequences. But money makes those go away.

I feel no one looks at truth social cause screw it but shortly before the announcement of the pause on tariffs trump did post to buy now.

Dump Post

[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

The volume spike was an hour after that post

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 40 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I mean it's not like he went on Truth Social shortly before he announced the pause and told people it was a good time to buy stocks or anything... right?

[–] dmention7@lemm.ee 13 points 2 days ago

According to my mom, this is a good thing because he's helping regular people make money in the stock market.

The MAGAs are actually cheering this because they think they're being invited into the club, when he's just brushing some crumbs off the table for them to fight over in the alley.

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 49 points 2 days ago (21 children)

I've been saying this all along. Not just about this time, but he has pulled off a similar trade scare every month since he took office, with the same result - he announces tariffs, the market tanks, he rattles his sabre a bit, then pauses the tariffs, and the market rises again.

This has been the third, and biggest one, probably because he needed to make it a big one as he cried wolf for a third time. Which means the next time he does it, it will have to be even bigger.

Its clearly market manipulation, of a type that only president could do, but only if he were corrupt enough.

And? Who’s going to do anything about it? The stupidest people in this country gave a con man unilateral power to do anything he wants, what did they expect?

[–] IDKWhatUsernametoPutHereLolol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 65 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I mean, dude literally commited treason. "Market manipulation" is quite tame in comparison.

[–] Tortl@lemm.ee 24 points 2 days ago

Multiple treasons, and all the people who would punish him for his market manipulation just benefitted from it so they're only going to thank him

[–] throws_lemy@lemmy.nz 303 points 2 days ago (12 children)

I don't, but yes this is very blatant

Jail Trump! Jail Trump!

.....and he pardoned himself.

Hold on, is he raping two old ladies on main street while also shooting a dog, stealing 10 cars, developing an illegal DNA chemical and polluting the environment?

.....and he pardoned himself.

[–] Lennnny@lemmy.world 66 points 2 days ago (9 children)

He has like 30 something felonies and openly admitted to rigging the voting computers. The man could commit murder on stage and still somehow continue being president.

The American legal system will be unable and/or unwilling to deal with it. Best chance is to send HIM to El Salvador if he ever relinquishes the office.

This should be considered an act of war by...everyone, really. Everyone should pull their stuff out of the US market, be they ordinary Americans, Norweigian oil bonds, or German gold.

Trump will pull this shit again, he has a pattern of pulling the rug, and will keep doing so long after there is no more rug.

Arrest his corporate benefactors for insider trading. They’ll find out loyalty is only one way, or worst case scenario pardoning clear criminal behavior goes on record

If the conman-in-chief somehow made himself above every law, above Constitutional checks and balances, we have to start by removing the criminals that enable and support that, or worst case scenario take every opportunity to highlight it to low information voters

He can only flout the law because he has supporters that enable criminal behavior. Remove them and this all comes tumbling down

[–] 1995ToyotaCorolla@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago (2 children)

He's been accused of a lot of things. Doesn't mean anything until he gets punished

[–] Phoenicianpirate@lemm.ee 15 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

It is kind of amazing how selective the justice system is. There is a man who spent 30+ years in prison for stealing a loaf of bread. Apparently he had a criminal record prior and that meant he had to be thrown in prison for that long for any subsequent crime... but I find that utter bullshit.

Is it 125% for China and 10% for everyone else currently?... for 90 days?

Or is it 10℅ across the board for 90 days?

I'll wait for his next tweet to make all my speculation pointless. Fuck this guy.

There was definitely a rumor that caused a market spike two days ago until the white house immediately called it "fake news" which the media took at Trump's word as they always so gullibly do. Well as it turns, out, this "fake news" got the duration of the pause right to the exact number of days.

Now everyone seems to be pretending they don't remember that this happened just two days ago and I just don't get it. Shouldn't somebody be asking why some random people on Twitter seemed to know Trump's plans in advance?

The only reason he reversed course is because the bond market was shitting the bed. If no one was buying our shitty bonds, then they couldn't issue the debt to pay for the massive tax cuts for the rich they're about to pass. The insider trading wasn't supposed to start until the market bottomed, they will absolutely try this same play again in three months.
