Hi, I’m 21/male from Germany and to me it seems like people here are constantly negative and complaining compared to people from other/non-Western countries who seem way more chill.

I assume this is probably the worst here in Germany since this is also a stereotype about Germans that they constantly complain about things and in my opinion this is very true from experiencing real life here every day. But I would say I’ve also noticed this from other western countries, maybe not as extreme but for example in America people also seem to be pretty hateful and seem to make a drama out of everything (at least from what I can tell on the internet).

I just wonder why these people unnecessarily spread this negativity because in my opinion here in these western 1st world countries we have so much luxury compared to other places. For example other countries have wars, people live in terror and extreme injustice/corruption, people starve to death, get abused, raped and tortured and need to seek refuge in other countries. But we complain that eggs are too expensive and that we have too many migrants, which goes so far that America is deporting all illegal migrants including those who might’ve fled from the things mentioned earlier such as violence and rape.

Why do people waste all this time with complaining and being negative if they could use this time to be grateful, enjoy life and make the world a better place? To me this seems like people are destroying their own life and make it unnecessarily harder/unhappy with that behavior. I think I’m noticing this particularly in older people including my parents. It almost feels like they’re unable to be positive and only know how to complain.

Any modern chemists around? It's many years since i left the chemical lab. I was taught to rinse my pH electrode in demin/distilled water between measurments. Some suppliers are now telling me that you should use normal town/tap water as demin depletes the membrane.

While I see the argument, it goes against everything I've known. I'm also not sure that with the short rinse time it shouldn't make any technical difference for routine measurements.

Any recommendations and even better, references would be really helpful.

I noticed quite a few unhinged people with upside down smiles. Like :( and that is their default facial expression. What is the reason behind this?

You know, DOGE, fascist president and corporations dictating what people can do, institutions being ruined, laws being ignored. Is there any way out of that or is it over? Is the USA done?

Pretty lame for a global kabal controlling all the ins and outs of world governments.

What if, trump is the deep state =0

I’m 6.1 feet tall (183 cm), 33.07 inches waist diameter (84 cm) and 35.04 inches hip diameter (89 cm). Most known hosiery brands make stuff for smaller, fuller women afaik.

One clerk told me to forget L and go directly to XL, but I'm new to hosiery and I don't want to feel strange because there's too much fabric hanging on my thighs or because the pantyhose simply falls down my waist because I'm so skinny for an XL...

Another clerk elsewhere said I should buy an L, so I'm confused.

Brands I've compared but not tried on are wolford and falke. I haven't found any reputable brand that sells specifically to tall, skinny women. I'd be grateful if you could name some.

This will probably be my last question here (at least for a while). My last two questions were about flirting and expressing romantic interest to someone. In short in was a mixture of: 'Flirting is important.' and 'Just be yourself.'

I want to give flirting a proper, respectable shot. I want to see if this is something I can develop and get creative with.

At the same time I'm also hearing I should just be myself and let it be natural. Well, I never flirt, ever. So if I do, it will not be natural nor count as being myself.

So, what should I do? What does it mean to be yourself, while trying to change?

This has been going on since I was a child and at first I thought it was a texture thing but sometimes I go by the bakery in a grocery store while they're making cakes or doughnuts and just the SMELL of it makes it tingly and tickly. Am I still human?

I'm a nurse. I recently wrote about how I've discovered this job can be enjoyable, provided ratios are respected, I don't work with gossips, micromanagers and drama queens. I also like working with doctors that explain to me how things work and as a novelty, I've started reading on my free time about diagnoses, procedures and medicines.

Option A: go to my new unit and do the same.

Option B: patient transporter. I'd earn the same, I wouldn't have any boss over me telling me what to do except if I lazy around and I wouldn't have to run as I sometimes do as a nurse. No drama of any kind (I'd be alone most of the time), ample opportunities to sit and read, drink coffee or do nothing while waiting for my next assignment, other opportunities to learn while watching procedures being done to patients.

Yes. It really is this relaxed. I shadowed already.

My old self always though a job is a job and I should aim for maximum income doing the less amount of job I can. I'm also an introvert and enjoy being alone. This second job seems to offer exactly that.

Except that I'd miss learning from the doctors that have shown an interest in teaching me and the adult nurses (the ones not acting like children, the gossips).

I really don't understand myself. I feel I'd be dumbing myself down, but otoh earn the same I do now.

tl;dr: what does it mean to see these two warning/notice saying "This magazine [community] is from a federated server and may be incomplete." and "This magazine [community] is not receiving updates."

Hello. I've tried to get into lemmy back when reddit did the API restriction and killed access to my favorite Sync for Reddit, and it kind of really didn't stick.

Now I'm trying to get back into the threadiverse and figured I'd try with mbin now since I'm more keen to have an account that's seemed to have good mix of "properly" showing and have access to threads and microblog posts.

But some instances of mbin seem to have the one or two warning/notice on top of the community page.

I've looked at the community both thru two top mbin instance and through the community's local instance and yeah the warning is right. One of the mbin instance aren't synced / updated.

What does it actually mean, and how will it impact my browsing? Thanks.

Some stupid meme will appear in my head while I'm in public and a stupid grin will force itself into my face and obviously I don't want people to look at me and think I'm crazy, or worse ask what I'm laughing about and the only thing that was on my mind was "born to shit, forced to wipe".

I keep seeing the idea of the Democrats forcing a government shutdown over the debt ceiling as one of the few ways to fight what is going on.

It just keeps going through my mind that Trump/Musk aren't following any rules or laws as it is, they're breaking every valid security rule there is as it is.

So, what would a shutdown do other than give them carte blanche to fuck shit up while all the federal workers have to go home without pay?

Musk has the wealth to just keep paying the people he wants to keep fucking shit up out of his own pockets. If all the federal workers are sent home, who is even going to do the dance of trying to stand in their way?

Isn't that more dangerous?

I feel like maybe there's more that I'm not understanding about the situation, but at the same time it feels like all bets are off and Musk is going to do whatever the fuck he wants no matter what is happening.

I see several for political news but IDK if there’s one for discussing/asking about them.

He would say, "the power is yours!" Then he would fly away. Where did he go? Is there like a PlanetCave he just hangs out in and crochets until all the rings get used?

For instance, I have 2 HP CP1518ni's. They print well and have an auxiliary tray. They have WIFI, Ethernet, and USB. The toner refills are dirt cheap on Amazon. This model printer is old Govt surplus and are sold for $150-$250 range fully rebuilt all over the net. I also have my original HP PSC 1200 from 2000 and it is a great scanner and also makes great photocopies direct from the machine with no computer needed. 25 years and still going strong.

TLDR: There is no need to get these new machines that force you to buy HP toner and ink, get a refurb older HP laserjet instead.

They Type Like This, post similar stuff typically with kids’ shows, and some of them are oddly upset with one thing characters do: a lot of the time characters crying or being sad.

i’m not asking to judge, i’m just curious

Don't suggest hobbies or human contact. It's been suggested and it doesn't work.

I have a job I don't particularly hate nor like, some coworkers I get along with others are just morons, I go to work, then buy groceries, go home, eat, watch tv, go to bed. Rinse and repeat.

On my free days I do sport and watch pirated netflix. I don't spend much money on clothing or media and save most of my paycheck. What for? I have no idea. I don't eat out because I like cooking my own food and restaurants are expensive and the food is bland.

Everything is so expensive nowadays btw...

Most people bore me. I'm like an atheist monk.

I don't want to kill myself or anybody fwiw. It's like I don't give a crap about anything or anyone and don't see what's the point of living.

I don't want to travel because it costs money.

As soon as my cognitive abilities start to fail I'm going to be very easy prey for any online scammer.

I’m (19F by the way, not like 50) a bad texter. I can be not dry when I want to be, but usually I’m just not up for texting. I really don’t engage with my friends. (I’m asocial).

I don’t participate in their activities. I don’t really ask them how they are, or what their interests are. I don’t even engage in deep discussion with them unless I’m up for it.

When my friend sends a video that reminded her of me or that she finds funny, I don’t click it and just ignore it.

Maybe my friends are growing apart and they text me less because of this, but I’m kind of okay with that because I know they will be there for me when I need it and because I’m genuinely just tired/bored most of the time.

One time, my friend asked me if I’d like to spend time with her, and I just point-blank said “No”. IDK if that’s rude just because I’m being honest and also because it’s not personal, I don’t want to engage with anyone.

its: "JohnSmith234@Washington.DC.USA"

This is kind of a follow up question to this post: How important is flirting within the dating scene?

I have never in my life flirted with anyone. Seeing how I'm still single I figure I might want to change strategies. So what is the best way to show someone you're romantically (or sexually) interested in them?

And if you can, please include examples.

Note: I am a guy, straight.
