Developers: I will never ever do that, no one should ever do that, and you should be ashamed for guiding people to. I get that you want to make things easy for end users, but at least exercise some bare minimum common sense.

The worst part is that bun is just a single binary, so the install script is bloody pointless.

Bonus mildly infuriating is the mere existence of the .sh TLD.

Edit b/c I'm not going to answer the same goddamned questions 100 times from people who blindly copy/paste the question from StackOverflow into their code/terminal:

WhY iS ThaT woRSe thAn jUst DoWnlOADing a BinAary???

  1. Downloading the compiled binary from the release page (if you don't want to build yourself) has been a way to acquire software since shortly after the dawn of time. You already know what you're getting yourself into
  2. There are SHA256 checksums of each binary file available in each release on Github. You can confirm the binary was not tampered with by comparing a locally computed checksum to the value in the release's checksums file.
  3. Binaries can also be signed (not that signing keys have never leaked, but it's still one step in the chain of trust)
  4. The install script they're telling you to pipe is not hosted on Github. A misconfigured / compromised server can allow a bad actor to tamper with the install script that gets piped directly into your shell. The domain could also lapse and be re-registered by a bad actor to point to a malicious script. Really, there's lots of things that can go wrong with that.

The point is that it is bad practice to just pipe a script to be directly executed in your shell. Developers should not normalize that bad practice.

but everytime I search for it, my TV just says, "sure" or "ok," and increases the volume.

My policy normally has renewed in October, but I had made huge changes to it in April ‘24. I thinking it has changed the due date I went to look at my upcoming bill to find out the policy is inactive.

My insurance agent stopped carrying the company and notification was sent to my old address, one of the changes was a new address, the other was updated coverage.

Insurance company cannot sell me insurance because of a non compete with the agent. Agent said that does not exist. Call insurance carrier to get policy info that was updated in April, they never enacted the quote.

They changed all streets near the school to 30k zones (yeah!) a couple months back, but cars still regularly go way too fast. Doesn't help that the warning sign still flashes a smiley for anything under 50.

This is a little more infuriating than "mildly infuriating" but I can't think of a better place to post it

Edit: I'd like to clarify that I live in East Tennessee, not an area like Florida! I do appreciate the hints that it might be clearcoat goblins though, and I've left a saucer of milk and cheese out to ward them away

I happen to recall that in this scene, she's speaking nonsense Italian words (she doesn't actually know Italian) but the first time they show it (and the viewer doesn't know she can't speak Italian) they show Speaking in Italy... and later when they're showing that she's saying words, but they're nonsense, it still says 'Speaking in Italy'!

This is not a big deal but it is entirely wrong. Why do I care so much about this?!

(The close caption is wrong in a lot of places on this copy of The IT Crowd, but that's the most ridiculous.)

Edit: Later in the episode they show a speakerphone, on which, an Italian man is speaking. The caption for this? "Voicemail in Italy." What!

I have an older Canon MG6320 ink jet printer with a touch interface.

Lately, my cats have decided sitting on the printer (one at a time) is a good idea. I'm fine with this -- it keeps them off the desk, and they're not going to break the printer. Even if they do, well, then I get to justify getting a new printer to my partner.

Anyway, when they get on the printer, invariably they step on the power "button", which means I have to hit the power button to undo what they did:

  • Turning on the printer takes rougly 1-2 seconds, and results in a short beep.
  • Turning it off, even right after it was turned on, takes roughly 60 seconds, with the printer clicking and clacking and whirring and making all sorts of noises that attract cats.

I've taken to unplugging it when I don't need it.

I hate printers.

These are some of the charges filed against Phillip Koons.

The stories I’ve heard are making kids run outside naked, and showing off his dick to show the children “what a real man looks like.” A lot worse, but that tends to stay on private Facebook pages and doesn’t typically get investigated.

The Oklahoma Coaches Hall of Fame considers him a man worth honoring however.

They do have their phone numbers publicly listed if you’d like to share your opinion about this.

A recent Youtube Web update has added a canvas whenever the seek bar is visible, an HTML5 canvas pops up. This was not asked for and not needed. If you disable canvases for privacy, this will cause a horrific red bad to cover half the screen until you hide the seekbar. Canvases can be used for fingerprinting, which I'm sure Google is doing here.

Airfare $19.86 surely way below fuel cost. Who even came up with this system?

In the past 24 hours, I've gotten three calls from mortgage companies looking for my ex-wife. I was pretty sure that she wouldn't put my phone number on her applications, so I asked the last guy who called how he got my number. He explained that they watch EVERYBODY'S credit, and when a mortgage inquiry pops up on anyone's report, they call every number that's ever been associated with that person, just so they can try to snatch the business from the company that ran the inquiry.

One of the callers, after being told I was not my ex, proceeded to read off her birthday and ask if that's when I was born. "No, but thanks for sharing her private information without permission."

If anybody was thinking about using Rocket Mortgage, I would recommend that you don't. If they are this shady on cold calling, I wouldn't trust anything else they do.

Power company recently outsourced their payment system and now have to pay a fuckin' fee to pay my goddamned bill. The only way to avoid that is autopay.

Further infuriating is I have to re-add my bank info to yet another third party system.

Fuck the modern world, man.

I made a music playlist awhile back. This morning YouTube showed a message saying "1 unavailable video hidden." You can un-hide hidden videos, which I did. Can you tell from the picture which of these three videos is no longer available*?

YouTube won't tell you which of the videos in your playlist is no longer available. Got-damn.

*It's the Tom Petty video, btw.

So the code hosting site Codeberg has been experiencing attacks by far right organizations for a bit now. Recently, the attacks escalated when someone created a repo and then mentioned a bunch of usernames in bulk. The result was that people includong myself received email notifications containing hate speech.

Codeberg did apologize but it really isn't their fault https://blog.codeberg.org/we-stay-strong-against-hate-and-hatred.html
