My kids won't have this problem. Given the circumstances that have been obvious for 40-50 years I made the best and most responsible parenting decision possible. I didn't have any.

You'd have to be unbelievably gullible, naive, traumatized AND brainwashed to be a diehard for a system like that. But, somehow they've managed it. A deluded nation of Amway top performers just one move away from making their own imaginary millions. All simping for the system.
Even table games before that served much the same purpose, similar with sports and some hobbies. It's much easier to talk about something or over something while engaging in an activity. They provide a default topic, a medium, a space and a diversion from unwelcome topics when needed; an agreed upon means of social interaction.
Motherfuckers pulled up the rugs, roads and rails behind them and can get entirely fucked. They had generation after generation invest in their eventual well-being and then spent like mad. Devastated everything. Fuck them. No contact. No grandkids.

It's not like your average dungeon or lich cave has OSHA approved vents, fans or electric lighting. Your average party, without specific magical aid, is burning torches and lanterns in unventilated spaces.
ETA: if you're going to run carbon monoxide, etc rules, your supply shops should stock and recommend caged canaries to anyone buying large quantities of torches and lamp oil, dungeoneering/mining gear, etc. People would know about it and have figured out a primitive solution that merchants would be happy to capitalize on if this is an in-world issue.
