i found one on fdroid but it was old and the directory selector was broken and couldn't really work outside of it's default for some reason, it also rendered the page i'm trying to use really weirdly, like it wasn't sending some file over and the css got borked.

Found one that wasn't foss, installed it, opened it, "buy premium to unlock this feature", uninstalled it.

I love the ViMusic/RiMusic UI, it's something different that works also better than standard material designs.

My phone is losing regularly GSM network during calls and people are saying that they cannot hear me. Is there any fix of this? I have already tried to disable WiFi Calling, 5G, restart the phone, etc. but those problems persist. I wasn't able to find reliable information on the internet that could help. If someone is experiencing similar issues and found a fix, let me know.

Alternatively, I can also install some other ROM, but I want to keep this as a last option. In this case feel free to recommend any good and stable ROMs.

In a rather prominent push, the “Start chat” floating action button now has a smaller Gemini FAB just above it. When you’re dealing with the rectangle, the square looks misaligned. Everything is visually correct upon scrolling.

After i got my Fairphone back from the repaircenter (they thought there was something wrong with it), they told me it was an intended design. However, i see other people mention they don't have it.

Hi,

I'm getting an error message: "Certificate authority is not trusted." while using webview browsers.

Screenshot_20240624-185444778

On "standalone" browsers like Mull or Cromite I don't have this error.

Specs:
Android 10
Free Browser v2.8
Mulch Webview v126.0.6478.110
AdAway (root) v6.1.1 with installed certificate
Root with Magisk v27.0
Modules: Systemless Hosts
                  Magisk Trust User Certs
                  Open Webview
Private DNS: unfiltered.adguard-dns.com

Anybody knows how to fix this?

I would like to use wget or curl on Android, mostly to test my webserver against some rules that I set.

I do have Termux on my tablet, but it will no longer install new packages, seems to be abandoned, maybe?

Is there an app/way to have one or both of these commands working on Android (13) without root? My GoogleFoo is failing me.

Thanks for any hint.

So I finally got my preorder of the EU version and activated it without needing support by using the esim transfer on my old pixel. After close to a week now I've had 0 issues!

~~I accidentally removed a MicroSD card from an Android device running Android 12 while it was being ejected. This happened because it took longer than usual (less than a few seconds), and I pulled it out without looking at the notification. Now, when I insert the MicroSD card into any Android device, it tells me to format it to use it, as a problem has occurred. It also gives me the option to format it and extend the internal storage. The third option is to skip both and do it later, which keeps the SD card unreadable by the system. The MicroSD card contains a lot of data that's important to me, and unfortunately, I had no backup, as I always considered my MicroSD as an external storage medium for such data. I would really appreciate any help on how I can resolve this issue and make the SD card data accessible again by Android. Thank you for reading! 🥲~~

Edit: Don't ask me why or how. But I put the SD Card into a phone running Android 14, and booted it. The SD Card could be actually read by the phone after it finished booting. I turned the phone off again, pulled the SD card out and put it back into it's original running Android 12 and magically it works again! My theory is that the Android 14 recognized and automatically fixed what was wrong and this made the card readable again to older Android versions.

Thanks to everyone who commented!

With every version of Android it seems to be harder and harder to get real time notifications anywhere near real time.

Twitch notifications, Signal, WhatsApp, I often get these ten to thirty minutes too late.

I've excluded them from battery optimisation but that doesn't seem to do anything. And I can't find anything else.

I don't care about battery usage. I'm always near a charger.

Android 13 on a Fairphone 3.

Edit: I've disabled DOZE according to https://stackoverflow.com/questions/40204605/android-completely-disabling-deviceidle-doze-in-android-m Hopefully that helps.

What percentage of Android phones are actually running it? I get that it's brand new and over time more and more phones will report the location of trackers, but are there any metrics on current "market saturation" (for lack of a better word)?

I just got my Pebblebee clips yesterday that I pre-ordered a few months ago. I wanted to test them out so I sent one in my kid's backpack to daycare today (which is a legit use case I had in mind when buying these, particularly when we leave him with a babysitter).

When I try to check on the location, it says "last seen at 7:45" which is when I dropped him off, implying that my phone was the last to ping the tracker. So that means none of the teachers' phones, nor any of the other parents' phones have pinged the tracker. It's not a big daycare but he's one of the first to arrive. There should have been at least 2 dozen other phones near his backpack since then. This brings me back to my question about how many phones would you expect to report the location of a tracker.

New OS for Pixel 3 (sh.itjust.works)
submitted 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) by akilou@sh.itjust.works to c/android@lemmy.world

I have an ancient Pixel 3 that still works. I'd like to install a new, third-party OS. Which would you recommend?

I can see that there are many: Lineage, Calyx, /e/, Graphene, .... How do I make the decision? Can all of them work on a phone as old as my Pixel 3?

Edit: holy shit, I just installed Lineage OS on my lunch break! I've installed "alternative" OSes before on computers but never on a phone. I just followed the instructions (which were a little confusing as there were nested steps) and it's up and running!

Hey guys. Is there any Android TV app that can trigger auto turn off after set amount of time of not using CC remote control?

We have a projector connected to ChromeCast with Google TV 4k and also a bluetooth speaker connected to CC. Sometimes we fall asleep while watching a movie/show at night and it is just wasting projector lamp hours. What I want is actually a basic TV feature that pops a message on the screen "shutting down in xxx seconds" and gets canceled with any button on CC remote control.

Projector actually has that feature, but then I have to use projectors remote control (trying to get rid of it with smart IR blaster and Home Assistant) to cancel the shutdown and even if it goes off CC is still playing sound from BT speaker. Projector has HDMI CEC settings, but it is not working at all unfortunately.

CC has a feature "Automatically turn off when inactive", but it never gets to inactive state because Jellyfin will just play a next episode (can be disabled, but would like to keep it) or TiVi mate is just playing until closed manually.

All opinions are welcome, thanks

Android Intent Filter Verification Service

I've seen on TrackerControl this system app (on my grapheneOS) contacting Amazon (amazon.com) and Google (android.clients.google.com, m.youtube.com, play.google.com and www.youtube.com).

What does this app do? I've disabled internet access for the time being.

on my last post I wrote device is a redmi 9c. Turns out it's a redmi 10c and the custom ROM I wanted to install https://xdaforums.com/t/rom-13-unofficial-lineageos-20-0-unified-for-redmi-9a-9c-10a-blossom.4609367/ won't work.

Anyhow, to unlock the device the official way I have to identify to their services through a phone line, not internet, and purchase a sim card, which I'm not going to do to experiment with this device.

I have no use for the stock software in the device and I'd rather have anything foss that works or kinda works.

If you ever experimented with this particular model or know what could work, feel free to post an answer.

Apps for a trip (lemmy.world)

Hey guys, I’m planning to have a trip to Japan on the 19th.

Are there any apps that you would recommend installing?

I would prefer FOSS apps, but non-FOSS are also OK.

As for now, I’m looking for: currency converter, two clocks widget app (Japan+home), weather app, and any other suggestions. TY.
