getting bamboozled by shittymorph every goddamn time is one of the very, very few things i miss about reddit

[–] the_post_of_tom_joad@sh.itjust.works 26 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Ooh and talesfromtechsupport! And Photoshopbattles!

There's probably more I've forgotten. I do miss the ol gal sometimes but we're no good for each other

I miss poem for your sprog.

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 4 points 1 week ago

I was on reddit long enough to remember the early days with the slew of novelty accounts. It was glorious.

No sleep was fun because a lot of the stories are a bit of a slog with the same twists we've heard 100 times before, but every once in a while you'd find a gem and it would just blow you away. I loved one called the left right game, it was what got me into the subreddit.

I kinna stayed away from that sub cuz of precisely that reason but I'm always down for a good yarn now i wanna see if i can dig that one up

Eddie: found it! It's a multi parter, I'm excited, thanks https://redlib.nohost.network/r/nosleep/comments/7asz8x/has_anyone_heard_of_the_leftright_game_part_1/

A tumblrized reference to an ancient reddit in-joke. How quaint.

Honestly kind of a bittersweet thing to see, it makes me think of all the good things we left behind. But then again, we did bring the best parts with us. Star Trek, Linux, and beans are all a Lemmizen needs.

Wasn't shittymorph one of the ones who came here with the exodus?

[–] Maalus@lemmy.world 23 points 1 week ago (5 children)

They're still posting on reddit. So either they never went or they came here, seen the state of the platform and promptly left.

[–] protist@mander.xyz 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think there were a number of power users for whom that was the case

[–] Earflap@reddthat.com 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

We're honestly better off without them. Power users and power mods kinda ruined Reddit.

[–] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Power users and power mods are trying their best to ruin Lemmy too

Aw, man, I don't deserve the hate :( /s

[–] donuts@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Do we have a c/beetlejuicing?

[–] Maalus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Shoulda named yourself work/timeuser you wouldn't be catching as many strays.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What is a power user on Reddit?

[–] Earflap@reddthat.com 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Someone like Gallowboob. They just post an endless stream of low quality drivel and eventually turn into ad machines and push specific narratives and propaganda. We're much better off without them.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago
[–] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Looks like it might be the latter. I see this profile, but the cake day and the last post were both over a year ago.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He's not morphing anymore though, which is kind of sad, but understandable.

[–] Maalus@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

They are - on reddit. Someone linked a comment here from a month ago. They just didn't stay on lemmy, if they ever came here.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

That's a chatbot.

The real one posts exclusively on Pillowfort.

I don't like Star Trek, I don't understand Linux, and I don't even know what you mean by "beans". Unless you mean the actual food......but that doesn't answer any questions.

[–] MajorMajormajormajor@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I admire your honesty, it's a bold strategy on the internet.

Beans is referencing the period where bean memes were the popular meme. There wasn't a reason (that I could see), people just posted bean memes for a while.

Welcome to memes!

I miss shittymorph, what a legend.

I am unable to parse that last paragraph

[–] Hope@lemmy.world 39 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

It's a reference to a reddit user (https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/1gnxkgd/comment/lweabef/) who would post these intricate comments with these really engaging stories that would then end with that last paragraph, which describes the events of a 1998 wrestling show where the wrestler The Undertaker threw the wrestler Mankind (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mankind_vs._The_Undertaker) and the type of wrestling match (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hell_in_a_Cell ).

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 34 points 1 week ago

The user was contributing to the discussion and shitposting at the same time. It was glorious.
