In case anyone wonders, lizard people means “the Jews” in context.

They don’t actually think there are lizard people, they’re just extra othering Jewish people.

One thing I've learned is that conspiracy theorists always seem to end up at racism.

[–] TheJims@lemmy.world 30 points 1 year ago

And antisemitism

[–] Syd@lemm.ee 22 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I think you'd be surprised at how many do mean, and believe in actual lizard people.

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The intersection of the people who believe in actual lizard people and those people who believe “Jewish people are lizard people” is probably 1:1

[–] Peaty@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago

Oddly the guy mentioned, Klaus Schwab, is not Jewish.

[–] HeartyBeast@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago

Yeh, ISTR recall that David Icke believes the Royals are lizards. Ah - yep ... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-politics-36339298

[–] kromem@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

That was likely where it originated.

But no, a ton of them today legit mean reptilian people. Like they'll get all excited about YouTube videos where there's a reflection in a celebrity's eyes from their reptilian eye or some crap.

And then this has since further devolved into modern theories around clones and skinsuits and people pretending to be other people.

Entire threads dedicated to examining moles between photographs to point out how it's really a different person.

Social media effectively constricting our functional difference has turned us into John B Calhoun's rats.

[–] Peaty@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Except it doesn't always mean Jewish people as Queen Elizabeth II was supposed to be one and she isn't Jewish.

Klaus Schwab is Catholic and his parents moved to Nazi Germany so it is unlikely that he is Jewish.

[–] Fondots@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Not saying that it's necessarily what's going on there, but there's a certain subset of insane white supremacist conspiracy theories that thinks that Christianity is a Jewish conspiracy to make their beliefs more palatable to the masses and spread their influence or something along those lines. It'spart of the reason some white supremacists are into norse paganism and such. You'll also get bullshit about the "wrong" branches of Christianity being controlled by the Jews, etc.

It's all completely insane of course, but I guess there's something that almost approaches logic to it, it's kind of weird for people who are so proud of being white to follow the teachings of a middle eastern religion.

There's a pretty interesting rabbit hole to go down with the various factions of white supremacist assholes, while they're all pretty much the same in all the ways that matter to any of us who aren't pieces of shit, under the surface there's actually a lot of different little philosophical differences, and for a long time they really struggled to put together a united movement.

Hah, little do you know that she was only wearing that crown to hide her yarmulke...

[–] flamingo_pinyata@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh, all this time I thought they were believing in actual lizard people.

How do they know, like how do racists exchange this information if they never openly mention jews?

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

Some of them are definitely still talking about actual lizard people, like they think live in the centre of the earth, came from space, etc.

Regarding how dog whistles spread I'm really not sure. I know I've been oblivious to some too.

Very well, Nerevar. You wish to hear a tale of my encounter with an Argonian?

On a dark and ashy evening, I, Dagoth Ur, found myself in the heart of my city. As the god of House Dagoth, I walked with purpose through the twisting corridors of Kogoruhn. There, in the dimly lit chambers, I beheld an Argonian, standing like a shadow in the obsidian darkness. Her name, she told me, was Sul-Matuul, and I found myself intrigued despite my disdain for her kind.

Our first date, if you could call it that, was an unusual affair. Sul-Matuul, being an Argonian, had a fondness for swampy, humid environments. She suggested we visit a hidden corner of Morrowind, a place where the air was thick with moisture and the smell of rotting vegetation hung heavy.

We embarked on a journey to the heart of the Bitter Coast, trudging through the muck and mire. The Argonian's tail flicked with excitement, and she spoke of Hist trees and Hist sap, matters that held no interest to me. Nevertheless, I, Dagoth Ur, entertained her ramblings.

Our destination was a swampy grove, where the Argonian insisted we perform a traditional Argonian dance. I found myself awkwardly attempting to mimic her movements as she swayed and hissed, her scales glistening with swamp water. It was a display of Argonian customs that grated on my divine sensibilities.

As the night wore on, and the swamp's stench permeated my very being, I could bear it no longer. I declared our date concluded and returned to the sanctum of Red Mountain, leaving Sul-Matuul behind.

And thus, Nerevar, that was my first and only encounter with an Argonian in matters of the heart. What a grand and intoxicating misadventure it was, one that reinforced my disdain for their traditions and way of life.

Argonians are too woke to be allowed to take part in our political system

[–] jpreston2005@lemmy.world 41 points 1 year ago

ugh, i had to watch 4 minutes of that moron spouting garbage just for him to say "lizard people" once in passing. these people can't even do crazy conspiracy theories right

[–] kromem@lemmy.world 26 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I mean, the term is being used fairly colloquially here, it's not really a rant "on lizard people."

My favorite part of the video is how he says the three banks that went bust and didn't get bailed out because of their heavy stakes with Bitcoin companies, but conveniently glosses over why banks that heavily tied their assets to cryptocurrencies ended up going bust in the first place.

Typical Sinclair media crap trying to scare old people into buying gold and 365 day packs of rations from their advertisers.

The amount of grifting that's gravitated to pre-qualified marks on the hard right is astonishing. "Here's a free pocket knife from China with FREEDOM engraved on it (and an automatic subscription to "Getting the government out of your wallet magazine" for the low price of only $79.99/mo billed annually)."

[–] shottymcb@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yeah, I was really hoping for a gotcha moment to use on my newsmax watching in-laws, but this doesn't cut it. 'Lizard people' is pretty clearly meant as a lazy metaphor for 'elites'.

To be honest though, I don't think it would've worked anyway. These are people that would 100% believe that literal lizards had infiltrated the government if newsmax said so. Not even lizard people, they would totally go along with the little pushup doing lizards being in control of the world.

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"the real reason Silicon Valley Bank, Signature Bank, and First Republic Bank didn’t get bailed out by the government earlier this year was because they supported decentralized cryptocurrency, which the government can’t control."

The banks didn't get bailed out but everyone was made whole. A rare case where the corporation got the death penalty but customers didn't see "socialize the failure and privatize the profits." This is a situation where the conservative is upset that the company wasn't propped up by socialism.

[–] Rice_Daddy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

It's the narrative that's important here. Whatever happened would've been broadcasted as evil.

[–] TheAgeOfSuperboredom@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 year ago

WTF! Blockchain! Yup, the totally safe and anonymous and intracable bitcoin.

Also Newsmax viewers dislike the Patriot Act? Put in by George W. Bush? The one where if you were opposed then you're a commie terrorist?

[–] cyborganism@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If you'd just let me get through this...

[–] Yewb@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I love how some truths always get intertwined with crazy.

Cbdc is a real thing the major banks are doing and we should be concerned but its not lizard people.

Me, trying to figure out how to talk to my conservative family members: Google, how do I casually talk about lizard people?

America's like a dying animal that NEEDS to be put down.

There's going to be a very bloody "civil war" here. And it's going to be heartbreakingly pointless and sad...

[–] ThePac@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Delusion. There will be escalations of domestic terrorism, but a full-fledged "civil war" is, again, delusion.

[–] iHUNTcriminals@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Not with that spirit! Keep it up and nothing will get done!

You don't need to take them out pre-emtively but you always need to know you can take them out if you want/need to.
