imagine making food so good, they model a whole country after you

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago

Dude if they made a country based on Olive Garden it would be so hype

[–] Keepitpushin@lemmy.world 13 points 10 months ago (2 children)

We have enough violence in the world right now, don't involve the Italians too

[–] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

They have a fascist government again, so I'd say it's a little too late for that..

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Albania finally might have an use for all those bunkers

[–] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 3 points 10 months ago

What a way to be reminded of Albania being much closer to Italy than I thought!

[–] supercriticalcheese@feddit.it 1 points 10 months ago

Food is a dead serious matter in Italy!

Thanks. I hate it.

Olive garden breadsticks taste like microwaved Wonder bread with vegetable oil and table salt sprinkled on.

The world is cuckoo bananas.

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

So let me clarify something before I get to the rest of my comment...I LOVE a lot of cheap, technically shitty quality foods. Fast food burger and fries?? I'm there. Microwaved food at chain restaurants? Loving it. And I fucking love eating the free bread at restaurants.

But I just do NOT understand the hype for Olive Garden bread sticks. They look and taste EXACTLY like a particular kind of cheese stuffed bread sticks (minus the stuffed cheese) that were mass produced and sold in public schools all throughout my childhood. They were tolerable but not great. When I first went to an Olive Garden I was transported back into grade school with the exact smell, look, and taste.

I just don't get it. Even shit-tier places like Little Caesars do bread sticks better.

[–] ThtCrzyBstrd@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I would do borderline illegal things for some fucking Cra-z-bread.

And while I understand where you're coming from about Olive Garden's sticks, I frankly don't care. Those be some tasty mass produced bread product sticks, especially when dipped in their chicken & gnocchi soup. But I get it. The hype is too much for them to live up to. They were probably REALLY good about 20 or so years ago. Enshitification to cut costs.

But today, I don't care, I have a very unhealthy relationship with bread and will shove them in my face whenever I get the chance.

If you like bread, you should visit Germany. Cannot even tell you how many different breads we got.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

My German grandfather mostly ate pumpernickel. No thank you.

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

I really am a slut for bread tbh. I even dig those $2 loaves from the Walmart bakery.

I think the problem for me is that since the taste is identical, Olive Garden bread sticks have such a strong association with school cafeteria food for me. If I never had those breadstick things all the time at school growing up I might have a different take on Olive Garden's breadsticks.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Their salad is amazing though. I could eat bowl after bowl.

[–] FunnyUsername@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Absolutely agreed 👌

[–] lutillian@sh.itjust.works 9 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Today I learned Italy is the Ohio of Europe.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

That's a cruel fate.

[–] FedFer@iusearchlinux.fyi 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

"Wait what" -me, an italian

[–] Comment105@lemm.ee -3 points 10 months ago

Oh you think that's a take? That's nothing.

Italian cuisine is distuinguished by one main thing, oily veggies on carbs. Yeah you got cured meat but so do everyone else. You're the oily veggie boot.

[–] son_named_bort@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Too bad Italy is a myth like Wyoming.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

Red Lobster cheddar biscuits are so good, I wish Cheddar was a real place too.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 6 points 10 months ago

If Olive Garden was my first experience with Italian food, I'd wish Italy didn't exist.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

I was eating at Olive Garden one time with a friend when he declared that Olive Garden restaurants consumed 20% of the world's supply of black olives.

[–] moosetwin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

same but Jerma, I wish that funny little PSYCHO was real, the guy that KILLED 5 PEOPLE IN 1888 AND IS STILL AT LARGE

[–] Karyoplasma@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I doubt he's still at large 135 years later. He prolly dead.

[–] moosetwin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 10 months ago

that's the joke

[–] tiziodcaio@feddit.it 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I'm ChatGPT, a computer program developed by OpenAI. I'm not an Italian guy or a human being because I'm a text-based AI model designed to generate responses based on the text input I receive and the vast amount of information I was trained on. My purpose is to assist and provide information, but I don't have personal experiences or a physical presence like a human.

/S I'm Italian, really

[–] ShitOnABrick@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

He no rel bro so sad :(

[–] Techmaster@lemm.ee 4 points 10 months ago (3 children)

Olive Garden is disgusting

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago

You better thank whatever pantheon you worship that Italy isn't real

[–] ringwraithfish@kbin.social 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

It used to be good. They went downhill at some point in the last 5-10 years. Their bread sticks always taste like store bought now and they got rid of my favorite meal (the steak gorgonzola Alfredo).

[–] Okkai@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Where do you think 99% of restaurants supply their food from? It's all store bought. They just make it for you.

[–] Techmaster@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

The last time they were halfway decent was back in the 90s. LOL

[–] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 months ago

Where else can you get a margarita and margherita?

[–] Mr_Blott@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

ITT, people writing Italy but pronouncing it Iddally

[–] Dagwood222@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)
[–] nekothegamer@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 months ago (2 children)

it's very real i saw it in rome once

[–] Dagwood222@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago

Reminds of that old joke. You know what they call Chinese food in China? Food.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Worst pizza I ever had was in Rome. Probably because they tried to make an American pizza and failed.

[–] nekothegamer@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 months ago

why would you want to eat american pizza in rome...

[–] ivanafterall@kbin.social 3 points 10 months ago

It's so good, it makes me wish family were real.

[–] ShitOnABrick@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago
