Not from Canada but this sent me down a rabbit hole, So the Ontario government sold a monopoly on beer sales to a company and ford backed out early and now the government has to pay 200 million in damages to the company instead of letting the contract expire in a year?

Doug Ford has a history of wasting taxpayers' money and helping his buddies line their pockets with extra cash. He's currently under investigation since he got caught selling protected land to his buddies and then rezoning it for housing afterwards, allowing the value to spike up by billions. And that's just criticizing his corruption. He's not a good person either. He got caught selling crack to high schoolers.

Doug Ford, aka Drug Fraud

Why is he still in office instead of in prison?

[–] Sundial@lemm.ee 7 points 4 weeks ago

His family is rich so they got to bail him out when he did stupid stuff like selling drugs.

I'm sorry, he did what?

The whole family has a history of drugs, so it's not surprising to anyone in the GTA. His brother was the mayor of Toronto, and there was a big scandal surrounding it at one point. He ended up dying, and Doug has had a grudge against the Toronto city council. One of his first acts when he became premier was to slash the city council by like half.

Depressingly accurate and succinct summary.

There are so many things...There was a license plate deal with a manufacturer and they were subpar quality with pealing paint right away, based on some nda nonsense the details of the arrangement DF made can't be disclosed...more wasted tax money

Just wait until you find out his brother wrote a one-page memo on mayoral letterhead, cancelling a transit project that had been years in the making, and with the stroke of a pen costing the city nearly $100 million dollars in wasted effort and cancellation penalties. Oh, and the beneficiaries are the same construction-and-development types that Drug Fraud is courting with changing zoning laws and paving over agricultural land for an expressway that nobody asked for.

Bread and circuses. My Ford supporting friends will point to these small things as if these are the issues that really matter.

Is he the same Ford that was busted for smoking crack as the mayor of Toronto

[–] Muscle_Meteor@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 4 weeks ago

No that's his brother

Say what you want about him.. he took drugs off the street

[–] RandAlThor@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 weeks ago

Did Singh just remember there's an election? He's been hiding under his bed for months
