Y'all. Been a reader for almost 50-years and just started Discworld last spring. Chewed up all 41 (?) books in just a couple of months.

Go. For. It.

Nearly 40 here. Don’t like fantasy/sci-fi but I started the first discworld audiobook recently. It’s decent - I’m enjoying it far far more than I thought I would. I second the recommendation to go for it. But also don’t stick with a book you’re not enjoying just because it’s widely considered “a good book”. There are more books in the world than you could possibly read in a lifetime - life is literally too short to waste on books you think you should be reading.

There are two versions of the audio books. The newer ones by Penguin Audio are worlds better than the older ones.

Also- I'm on book 17 and most of them have been absolutely delightful. But there have been about four that I just didn't get into. It's not necessary to read them in order and skipping the ones you don't enjoy doesn't take away from the rest of the books. If there is anything you need to know from another book there is a little author's aside that fills you in. I agree, no need to read something you aren't enjoying.

I discovered Discworld a while ago but I hadn't been able to stick to any of the books I tried. Last year I found the witches series and i really liked most of it, specially anything to do with granny and tiffany. I also liked a lot of things about the death series but after that I started to find much of it a bit tiring and I couldn't get into any other book. I cannot put my finger on it, but the older the book, the harder it was.

I am still glad I discovered this world and maybe I just need to take smaller doses of it.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

The older books are definitely harder and rincewind books aren’t my favorite. If you haven’t tried the guards or Industrial Revolution books you may want to give them a try. Once guards found it’s feet it was some of my favorites.

But also yeah it can require smaller doses for some people. They’re a lot and the better books are heavy.

It’s so good. I was convinced it was overhyped. I was wrong

[–] grue@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

I started in August and I'm on book 10, but that's in part due to having to wait on library holds.

[–] DarkMessiah@lemmy.world 24 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Definitely fake. Discworld is much more sane.

De chelonian mobile

The moon's turtle is on the darkside. This is why it cannot be seen.

[–] Pinklink@lemm.ee 19 points 9 months ago

This is so dumb and fake. You even forgot to put in the ice wall

[–] Drusas@kbin.social 18 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (3 children)

What even is this? We all know that it's turtles all the way down.

[–] Kata1yst@kbin.social 8 points 9 months ago
[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Yeah! Where are the rest of the turtles?

[–] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 2 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

They have their own little discworlds, complete with 4 elephants.

[–] MightyGalhupo@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Terry Pratchet’s discworld

[–] TootSweet@lemmy.world 14 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Fake. There should be another turtle under that turtle.

Nah it's defo a 'shop, you can tell because the turtle isn't standing on anything. Maybe it's standing on something that isn't a turtle and big globe is keeping this from us???

It's def real. Uou can see the turtle swimming in the universe soup called space.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It's not a standing turtle, it's a swimming turtle. Swimming through the universe. Its name is A'Tuin.

[–] MightyGalhupo@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

It’s gender has yet to be determined

[–] blahsay@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Nah only three elephants showing. If it'd been 4 elephants on the turtle's back it'd be real though

There are four elephants one is just standing in front of the other

[–] Burninator05@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago (1 children)

You can't see the moon's turtle because it doesn't have one because it's a sphere.

[–] Ddhuud@lemmy.world 6 points 9 months ago

What happened to the next turtle? Did the turtle jumped for the photo?

[–] 0x4E4F@infosec.pub 3 points 9 months ago

Poseidon is missing...

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

The turtle moves.
