Best pillow Ive used was full of like uncooked rice or ball bearings or something. It wasnt very soft, but you could make it conform to the back of your head perfectly.

[–] Septimaeus@infosec.pub 1 points 2 hours ago

As a side sleeper, two pillows is good, but honestly nothing beats one pillow folded.

[–] TheFrirish@jlai.lu 5 points 4 hours ago

Hey! Mom said it was my turn to post it this time!

And then there's me, using the same ancient, flat, worn out pillow since 2007. You can only have it by prying it from my cold dead body. I fuckin love that thing, I've tried many pillows since then but I always go back to my good old faithful.

I have 2 blue cushions that came with a couch that has long since been gone. The feathers in them are by now only distributed in a bunch of lumpy masses and you only get a feeling of softness when you lie on your side and squeeze it tightly against you.

I have never slept better than on these uneven lumpy heaps of blue misery.

Is it yellow? I bet it's yellow.

No judgement, though. I get the comfort pillow. I had one of those before I gave the stupid expensive free pillow my dad got from the mattress store a solid try.

Nah, it's more of a grey-ish when it used to be white. Only better pillow I've ever used is one of those fancy ones with memory foam and cooling gel on the top that my ex had. That was an amazing pillow.

I have a feather pillow, a regular thick pillow that you would find in most hotels, and a body pillow but I always go back to my ancient thin pillow for my head. Everything else gives me a sore neck and I can't stomach paying 150+ CAD for a fancy pillow when my old faithful works just fine to this day.

The rest of my pillows are hugging pillows, and that's the best use I've found for thicker pillows.

I dealt with this for years, then I developed GERD and had to get a wedge pillow to angle myself up. That wedge pillow with a medium firmness regular pillow is perfect.

[–] BackgrndNoize@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago

He can't keep getting away with it

[–] ThatGuy46475@lemmy.world 18 points 10 hours ago

Get a pregnancy pillow, even if you aren’t pregnant, even if you are a guy. You can thank me later.

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 25 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (1 children)

Yeah… human body variation is a bitch to design for.

Even if you have it adjustable, it’s very hard to accommodate everybody. Its usually for 5-95 percentile so even the designers know they are leaving out 10% or less of the population.

[–] fuckwit_mcbumcrumble@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

There’s also bed firmness. A person with broad shoulders but a soft bed might need a smaller pillow than someone with smaller shoulders and a rock hard bed.

[–] gerryflap@feddit.nl 1 points 4 hours ago

This explains why most pillows are way too flat for me. Relatively broad shoulders and a firm bed. I have a pile of pillows that are just too low/flat.

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 31 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Hot dog industry computing least common multiple tolerated by consumers to ensure you always have a hot dog or a bun left over.

[–] CocaineShrimp@lemm.ee 11 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Jokes on them. I like to eat buns raw

[–] Zorcron@lemmy.zip 12 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Would you say that you raw-dog the buns?

[–] ExcessShiv@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 5 hours ago

No, didn't you listen? They like to no-dog the buns...

[–] FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.fr 6 points 10 hours ago

What? Two is perfect

[–] ObsidianZed@lemmy.world 11 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Ohhhh, they mean like, thickness. My dumbass was thinking total pillows for the bed.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (1 children)

You're right on both counts tho. It is about thickness but also how many pillows you need in the bed to reach your desired thickness.

[–] ObsidianZed@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

Sure, but two pillow thickness for me would mean 4 pillows in total on the bed.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 3 points 9 hours ago

Sounds like OP is cheaping out on pillows.

[–] Hope@lemmy.world 7 points 13 hours ago (7 children)

Is there a solution to this? It's been bothering me more recently since my wife bought me a nice pillow

[–] puppycat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 12 hours ago

get those pillows that have a bunch of memory foam bits! i love our bamboo pillows since you can take out however much foam you want, and if you take too much out you can just add more fluff back in

100% recommend, it easily solved my pillow issues

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 4 points 10 hours ago

Yes, 2 different pillows of different firmness. Firm thick pillow for bottom. Softer medium size pillow for top.

Or two Goldilocks medium pillows depending on your preference.

2 small pillows or two large pillows doesn't work. Hotel pillows are usually excellent. So check the firmness when at a hotel to see what you like best. Often there are former or softer in the cupboard.

[–] lone_faerie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

I tried so many pillows and then I discovered the Coop pillow. It's shredded memory foam and comes with a bag of extra filling so you can remove or add to your liking

[–] Veedem@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

Absolutely love the COOP pillow too!

[–] inmatarian@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

Find the oldest, flattest pillow you have. Fold it in half.

[–] Enekk@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

How about slim pillows? I usually put two in a pillowcase. Example: https://a.co/d/drT0UwS

[–] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Order 2 and remove some filling from each, been doing it for years now.

[–] Beacon@fedia.io 3 points 11 hours ago

How is that different than a pillow that already comes pre-built with less stuffing in it?

[–] Beacon@fedia.io 1 points 11 hours ago
[–] Beacon@fedia.io 4 points 11 hours ago

Magic solution for me? Throw pillows. Meaning like standard decorative pillows you toss onto the side of a sofa. They're soooo much more comfy and ergonomic for me

EDIT

These are the general kind i mean

I use a thick pillow to hug and a folded blanket for my head. The blanket’s thickness can be customized to fit. The real problem is in hotels were both pillows are usually huge, so it’s literally a pain in the neck.

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

Helluva job

[–] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 2 points 12 hours ago

I use a down pillow and if I fluff it once before bedding down, it’s perfect.
