Latest denial of disaster funding comes as Trump has repeatedly stated he wants to eliminate FEMA

Donald Trump has denied federal disaster relief funds to the people of Arkansas, which saw dozens of people die from a series of deadly tornados last month, so legislators are pleading for him to reconsider.

More than 40 people have been found dead after a series of tornados and severe storms hit Arkansas and neighboring states Mississippi and Missouri in March, according to CNN.

Given the scale of the disaster, the state’s Republican governor, Sarah Huckabee, requested federal disaster aid as a part of an emergency declaration. That request was later denied by the Trump administration.

Will Republicans ever learn not to vote for Republicans?

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 hour ago

They would be much more able to do so if we replaced First-past-the-post voting and let them vote outside the two party system with the ability to transfer their vote if their first choice didn't win. No spoiler effect.

But we can't seem to get these reforms passed in most blue states ran by self proclaimed democracy defenders in the democratic party. How can we expect red states to pass it?

[–] GuyFawkes@midwest.social 10 points 4 hours ago

Nope. They’ve inbred themselves too far into stupidity.

[–] Ceruleum@lemmy.wtf 11 points 5 hours ago

So much winning!

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 20 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Aren't you happy you voted trump?

I'm sure these people are defending trump, still, saying it's for the best. Trump could just piss in their mouth and they'd say "that k you master for refreshing me!"

[–] arschflugkoerper@feddit.org 6 points 3 hours ago

they better say thank you

[–] Tuxman@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 hours ago

And unfortunately people who would need to hear that and understand will go "yep! Suffering is winning!"

(And sorry, it’s AI… I just didn’t have 10 years to practice or the budget to hire a band just for a meme song 😅)

This is in preparation for California wildfires.

He's setting precedent with an exponentially smaller disaster in a red state, as political cover for future denial of relief funds for the much larger Blue State seasonal disasters.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 25 points 6 hours ago

Conservatives do not rely on and do not need precedent.

Its pathetic that the Fayetteville area goes red.

[–] lilsolar@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 hours ago

You fell for it again award

[–] slumlordthanatos@lemmy.world 19 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I tried, but voting Democrat in Arkansas is just pissing in the wind.

We're getting what we deserve, and reaping what we've sown. Don't pity us.

[–] dadarobot@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 2 hours ago

Hello from little rock

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 46 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (4 children)

I have empathy for those in the state South of us. But very little sympathy. Your population of morons voted for this. Just like ours did. You get what you voted for. So have the day you voted for.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 47 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

I would feel SO much better if they even had an inkling that they have done this to their own selves.

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 23 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Dumb fucks are down there buried in rubble and blaming Obama.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 11 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

My realtor thinks everything is Biden’s fault

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 5 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (1 children)

Why do you do business with them? You can vote with your wallet with a hell of a lot of the transactions that occur in your daily life.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 7 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Because I didn’t know in the beginning and now the process is almost done. I’m not sacrificing my first house because I want to stick it to one misguided individual who is too susceptible to propaganda

[–] grue@lemmy.world 5 points 6 hours ago

I hope you at least give him a hearty "fuck you" right after the ink dries at closing, though.

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 8 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

That's definitely the most frustrating part about this. They will turn around and gleefully blame the victims of this. Rather than taking responsibility themselves.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 4 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Even while they ARE the victims

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago

Small point of distinction. If you throw yourself into a wood chipper you aren't a victim of the wood chipper. Just your own hubris. But otherwise I agree absolutely.

[–] WrenFeathers@lemmy.world 5 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (1 children)

Sadly, this point will be lost amongst the louder voices shouting accusations of blame at Obama and Biden.

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 8 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Or DEI, or immigrants, or trans, or or or any of the other non threats they've been programmed to fear.

[–] WrenFeathers@lemmy.world 7 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I heard something once, about a Jewish community manufacturing a laser that will work from orbit? From what I can understand, its primary purpose is to manufacture red herring arguments.

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Or the most powerful minorities of all. The gays. Who by simply existing can cause earthquakes and hurricanes!

[–] WrenFeathers@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

This is fascinating! It’s almost like… wildly inaccurate and scientifically illiterate biblical stories come have to life!

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

Excellent distinction.

Born and raised. I live just outside one of the major Metropolitan areas. But I spent Summers down in the southern Ozarks near the Tripoli mines when I was a kid. Know the Mennonites up north. About the only area I'm not very familiar with is down in the boot heel

[–] Fingolfinz@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Right on I’m about the same myself been here all my life. Wish we could get the magats to stop ruining our beautiful state

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Well the real key on that is to stop looking at it as us and them. Because they are us. When it really comes down to it they generally want the same thing. They just let themselves get distracted with culture war issues. Dehumanizing and othering people who aren't them. Just as we are easily susceptible to stories media and Outlets that dehumanize and other them or tying them as the problem.

They think wealthy Democrats are to blame for all their problems. If we are being extremely generous they might be 10 to 25% correct. Whereas Democrats and many progressives feel it is wealthy Republicans that are to blame. Which again 75 to 80% correct. Which is just how the people who are the problems like it. Continuing to make it an US versus them thing. When the truth is it doesn't matter what party they pretend to be in. It's on the wallpapers that are the problem. And that's something both Republican voters and everyone else can really agree when you get down to it. But that is what would really terrify the people who are the problem. If we were to unite against them.

Though as an anarchist that may just be my personal views.

[–] selkiesidhe@lemm.ee 5 points 5 hours ago

You get what you voted for. You asked for a president who came out and said point blank that he does not care about you and only cares about your vote. Your hatred and stupidity brought you here now own it while we all point and shake our heads.

[–] PotatoLibre@feddit.it 14 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Climate change is fake news.

The storm is fake news.

Nobody died, its all staged.

[–] Darkard@lemmy.world 9 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

So many crisis actors. It must have cost Biden a fortune.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Those crisis actors are clearly committing terrorism. And probably anti-semitism.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemm.ee 3 points 7 hours ago

You guys are getting paid?

I’m sad to see it, but this is what they voted for. This is what republicans have been fighting for for years, decades even, and Arkansas’ entire federal delegation is republican.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 6 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Are Huckabee's bootstraps broken or somethin'?

[–] psycho_driver@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Huckabee hasn't been able to reach her bootstraps in decades.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 6 points 8 hours ago

Republicans deny aid as well, he can't do any of this alone.

[–] vegeta@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago

The Osage Nation has a name for her: Faces the Leopard

[–] Fingolfinz@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

That’s a shame
