When you go to report an issue, and select “Name is wrong”, the send button never activates, whereas “something else” will.
So this is a bit of capitulation that seems to be hard coded and they just don’t want to hear about it.

Reported an issue with the name. I know I’m shouting into the void on this but a small poke in the eye makes me feel better.

You know, I had the shitty thought that at least back before chat communication, a robber baron (or it's equal kind) had to actually hire thugs and henchmen to cause local chaos. Now it's just some tech oligarch with some bots or a paid anonymous service causing disruption.

Well, yeah, because the United States Geographical Service is the source of truth for geographical names. No surprise Google and Apple follow it. There's a little more breakdown than that, but that's the gist of it.

In my view, the only ones that really care are the people whose opinions don't matter. The Gulf of Mexico will always be the Gulf of Mexico, regardless of what it may legally be called. Much the same way, in my view, X will always be Twitter, And Zuckerberg will always be POS.

Well seeing as how Tim was right up there next to Sundar I'm not the least bit surprised.
Unlike Google they still have a “report issue” button active.
And I will continue to use it until they take it away
Reported it on Apple Maps as the wrong name. See how long they let reports come in.

In the EU, they still show Mexico, while google shows both names:

Maybe if enough people file feedback on the name change they will reconsider. At least they will have a glut of feedback to deal with.
