half a liter of espresso, 3 cigarettes and 70mg of amphetamines.

I wish I was joking.

[–] jpreston2005@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I discovered this at a wonderful restaurant in Columbus, OH that is now closed, but it's a spicy indian chili-like dish that, when served with a fried egg on top, is just brutally delicious.

Pav Bhaji

[–] KammicRelief@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

oooh I love pav bhaji! Never thought to have it for breakfast though... good idea.

Bacon and Bacon

If I had been a member of Monty Python, we would be calling email spam... Bacon today.

An everything bagel with plain cream cheese. I used to make my own bagels and have them all the time, but as I aged I became lactose intolerant, so I tried some of the vegan cream cheese brands, and let me tell you that shit is NOT the same, so I just stopped baking bagels, and I miss them.

[–] papertowels@lemmy.one 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I just down fistfuls of Costco lactaid, lol

[–] grasshopper_mouse@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, I've tried that, I even have these extra strength lactase pills from Europe with like 3x the amount of lactase as Lactaid, but it's still always unpredictable as to whether it will work or not, and if it doesn't, it will ruin the rest of my day.

[–] papertowels@lemmy.one 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Dang. Yeah unpredictability is the worst.

This is just for fun, but you might enjoy this video by someone who genetically engineered an everlasting gobstopper to give him long lasting lactose tolerance

[–] grasshopper_mouse@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Whoa, this is wild! Would totally do that even for a year of being able to handle dairy again!

[–] papertowels@lemmy.one 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah I'd pay good money for this ngl

[–] ladytaters@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Migas! It's a TexMex egg dish.

Beat eggs with salt, pepper, and cumin. Let them stand for 10 minutes, then dice a jalapeno and an equal amount of onion. Fry them for a couple of minutes, then add minced garlic. When the garlic is just fragrant, beat the eggs back to foaminess, then add to the pan. Let them set for about 45 seconds, then add a big dollop of salsa and mix. When the eggs are almost done to your liking, add a handful of cheese (I like cheddar or Oaxaca), and crumble in a handful of tortilla chips, the more stale the better. Let everything sit covered for a minute or two, then serve!

I like mine with extra jalapeno, and if I'm feeling saucy I add chorizo.

Breakfast Tacos!!

Flour tortilla stuffed with scrambled eggs, bacon strips and/or ground breakfast sausage, cheddar cheese, refried beans (optional), and a line of habanero hot sauce.

Fucking 😙🤌!!!

It's also one of the best hangover cures!

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 1 points 1 day ago

Those are delicious.

Used to make something very similar, but we used a pancake for the "shell" instead of a tortilla.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Vegan egg substitute omelet with roasted red peppers and olives.

[–] Slovene@feddit.nl 5 points 2 days ago

Cold leftover pizza.

[–] other_cat@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Omelettes. So versatile. So good. Of all the combos I love bacon and mushrooms in my american cheese omelettes best of all.

Pancakes are a close second.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 2 days ago

Toasted bagel with cream-cheese and a sunny-side-up egg on top. Two eggs for the two halves of the bagel. Eat with hands knowing that some of the yolk will get on your fingers. It's awesome. I made it for my partner once and she now makes it for herself when she's eating alone.

[–] HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

A nice breakfast bowl w/ sausage, egg, cheese, and shredded fried potatoes all mixed together. Throw in a glass of OJ and a mug of coffee and I am set.

It's actually been a while since I made it, since the extra effort of getting the potatoes right loses out to the morning ennui, so I end up substituting the eggs and potatoes for just grits.

[–] TheBraveSirRobbin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

My work cafeteria serves a similar breakfast bowl on Tuesdays. I think I know what I'm having for breakfast tomorrow

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago

Leftover dinner. Not a huge breakfast fan.

[–] Nefara@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

The one I eat most often is overnight oats, just steel cut oats and whole milk with some fruit if I have it. Favorite to eat is probably bananas foster french toast made with home made brioche. Nothing like starting your day with a brown sugar, caramel and rum sauce haha.

Full English, however as everyone has slight variations or additions:
Sausages, hash brown, fried mushrooms, fried bread, bacon, black pudding, baked beans, fried egg.

... And now I'm hungry again.

[–] EnderMB@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's not a bad spread. Should probably add that it's back bacon, and not streaky bacon that the yanks eat.

[–] JadenSmith@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes! Good clarification to make! And the fat parts have to be cooked (too many a time I've ordered a breakfast, to get uncooked fat).

[–] triptrapper@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

So you all cook the bacon correctly over there? God bless.

Cut a croissant in half. On the bottom half, spread out a healthy serving of a good chicken salad. Sprinkle a tiny bit of red pepper powder for a kick (optional but recommended). Put two slices of cheese on top of this. Put this in a toaster oven, preferably heat from above. Take it out when the cheese is melted. Replace the top croissant half and press down a bit so everything doesn't fall out when you take a bite. Enjoy the best start to your day.

Oh wow this does sound good

[–] Summzashi@lemmy.one 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Or just a croissant without that mushy mess.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You wouldn’t happen to be from Ohio?

anything that can be eaten and reached from bed.

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

That I don't have to make myself? Greek omelette. That I do have to make myself? Breakfast burritos that past me made a bunch of them froze for future me. Or just general food, we don't often have just breakfast food.

[–] Donebrach@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Usually made for dinner these days but a breakfast burrito comprised of either scrambled or fried eggs, cheese, diced potatoes, with bacon or chorizo, smothered in cheese and a NM green chile sauce.

[–] niktemadur@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

For a long time it was Huevos Rancheros, but that got nudged into the #2 spot when I discovered Eggs Benedict.

[–] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 13 points 3 days ago (4 children)

egg soboro right now: crack an egg in a pan, constant stirring, 8 minutes or so at the lowest heat, super fluffy, flavored textured egg curds.

Square sausage and potato scones.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 11 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Yakisoba with shrimp and napa cabbage.

Pho is also a great breakfast food.

When I'm feeling like punishing my digestive system, biscuits and gravy (homemade only--nobody seems to know how to make it properly anymore).

Steel cut oatmeal with maple syrup and almonds and shredded coconut.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

If I have to pick one item, a breakfast taco with chorizo, egg, and cheese.

[–] CMDR_Horn@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Oh man, I have too many favorite breakfasts to choose from…

Simple Eggy toast: crack, an egg in a skillet break the yolk and place bread on top flip when cooked. Season with salt, pepper, and Valentina hot sauce

Heart attack: can of corn beef hash, fried in a skillet add pepper, thyme and garlic. Cook until P Parts of it are slightly crispy. Plate and add a fried egg, baked beans, and a piece or two of buttered toast

Homemade egg McMuffin using standard deli ham instead of Canadian bacon

Each of these with a fresh brewed latte sweetened with local honey for allergy benefit
