IDK why people didn't just block mbfc instead of down voting it every time it shows up

[–] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 61 points 3 months ago

They don't want the community to develop a trust for what very well could be a disinformation bot.

[–] deo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I'm actually kind of OK with that b/c it pushes it to the bottom of the comments, so it's out of the way but still easy to find if i'm curious.

Yeah some people, like OP, will post some blog and call it credible journalism. Abs maybe it is, but how the hell would I know?

By developing your own media literacy and attempting to verify facts in the things you read by using other sources. Better to evaluate news sources yourself than relying on a biased bot.

Actually, in your specific case you're probably right, it's probably better if you don't put any more strain on an unsound framework.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social -2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Aw, he thinks his opinion matters

[–] Glytch@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Would you waste your time replying if it didnt?

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 4 points 3 months ago

They probably feel like they are taking a stance every time. Lol

[–] muntedcrocodile@lemm.ee 22 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I like the bots, don't ban them, let people block them if they don't like them.

[–] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 25 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Most bots are like ads.

Everyone can install an ad-blocker. But it would be better if that collective effort was not needed.

[–] juliebean@lemm.ee 14 points 3 months ago (2 children)

there should be a simple little checkbox in your settings if you don't want to see bots.

[–] davidgro@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It kinda reads like you are saying 'Someone should create this' when you really mean 'It is there if you look'.

[–] juliebean@lemm.ee 3 points 3 months ago

fair point, that was a bit of an ambiguous wording. thank you for clarifying for folks!

Then go ahead and uncheck it.

I turned off bot accounts because there was (maybe still is but idk) so many Reddit bots just posting links, which wouldn’t be bad but there was 0 comments consistently so they felt more like spam to me

Edit: this was back during the Reddit exodus when I made my lemmy account

[–] juliebean@lemm.ee 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

i found there to just be a few prolific reddit repost bots, so i just blocked them individually. i actually personally appreciate bots like that mbfc bot though.

edit: fixed a typo

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 17 points 3 months ago

Admins: we want some feedback from the community about the media fact check bot.

Everyone: we hate it, turn it off.

Admins: ok, we heard you, we're going to keep it on.

I don't really downvote the bot too often, but YouTubers I watch have made me lump ground news in with nordvpn, raycons, hellofresh, factor, fuum, betterhelp, and the whole lot of influencer companies who probably have customer acquisition costs of $60+ and seem to survive, despite usually turning out to be junk. Anything advertised that way becomes garbage in my opinion.

[–] Johanno@feddit.org 10 points 3 months ago

Nordvpn is quite nice, if you don't want privacy, but different ip addresses in order to evade government surface level checks.

Anything else ytbers promote is most probably shit. The more advertising a product needs the worse it is.

This is why I present to you the todays sponsor: sponsor block. A plugin for your Firefox, it skips over the parts where Youtubers fart out the paid script.

[–] BallsandBayonets@lemmings.world 1 points 3 months ago

I don't mind Ground news, though I don't pay for it and use it mostly as a news headline aggregator.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 16 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Wait, what's wrong with the bot?

[–] baggins@lemmy.ca 33 points 3 months ago (3 children)

I come to Lemmy to interact with people, not bots. They spam unwanted comments on literally every post for stuff that should be in a browser extension instead of forced down everyone's instance.

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 7 points 3 months ago

You can just set it so in the settings that you don't see bot accounts

[–] JowlesMcGee@fedia.io 3 points 3 months ago

You can block the bot(s) if you'd like.

[–] hate2bme@lemmy.world 0 points 3 months ago

I don't see any bots.

[–] GetOffMyLan@programming.dev 18 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That site seems heavily right biased and not very factual. What's your point?

[–] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago (2 children)
[–] PeriodicallyPedantic@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 months ago

What is the diffe between "factual reporting" and "credibility rating"?

[–] GetOffMyLan@programming.dev -2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yeah because they don't make stuff up. They just have a huge bias.

[–] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

Except they literally make up false allegations about UNRWA and the UN.

[–] Serialchemist@ttrpg.network 11 points 3 months ago

So you got spam, then?

[–] nadram@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That was funny 👌 People downvoting cos they don't like the bot? Or don't like the criticism?

[–] barsquid@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Downvotes are likely because people don't like Linkerbaan.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

"NOOO the other team will genocide even harder so you can't criticize my team of paid for shills nooooo"

[–] barsquid@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Oh, you are also a MAGA who wants the guy who blasted Yemen to get back in there and "finish the job" with Gaza before turning his attention to Ukraine.
