Why live in a world where we can name boats but not cars

CAN YOU NAME MY CAAAAR

[–] CosmicCleric@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Some would consider having specialized license plates as naming their cars.

[–] Hadriscus@lemm.ee 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They're illegal in France,... frankly I find this sad... pretty sure I could come up with some cool dad joke to place there

[–] CosmicCleric@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (2 children)

They’re illegal in France,… frankly I find this sad…

That's too bad. Why were they declared illegal?

[–] dev_null@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I guess you just can't get one, not illegal. Why would they be declared illegal, the government can just choose to not issue them.

[–] CosmicCleric@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Why would they be declared illegal, the government can just choose to not issue them.

You'd have to ask @Hadriscus@lemm.ee why they are illegal in France.

[–] Hadriscus@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago

I don't know why, I'd say it's likely a matter of legibility. I looked it up and the only wiggle room you have is the framing, the back material (either steel or plexiglas) and whether it's written on 1 or 2 lines.

[–] dev_null@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

Yeah we are in their comment thread

[–] Hadriscus@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

I have no idea, good question.

"Thewofedoesntknow" I feel like that's all what this sport is about. And old, unhappy men whitewashing their illegal money

Mine was a compilation of my wife and daughter's name; Elisae and as a nod to my Norwegian heritage it was the Norse Elisae. It was only a 22' though

[–] Slovene@feddit.nl 3 points 2 months ago (2 children)

It's not the size of the boat but the motion of the ocean.

[–] dan@upvote.au 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] CosmicCleric@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Avast ye scallywag!

[–] graeghos_714@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Michigander so it was all in the Great Lakes or smaller bodies of water. It was mostly a fishing boat
