Self cleaning? Is it something you made or what's the name is it? I'd be interested in details either way

I really want a fancier water fountain for my cats but never found a self cleaning one :(

Bookstack is really nice and user friendly. It's probably one of my favorites.

Dokuwiki is simple and stores files in plaintext.

I haven't used wiki.js much but I've heard good things about it too.

Another option if you don't need to share the wiki with anyone would be a note tool like Trilium. It has built in support for stuff like mermaid or excalidraw diagrams.

Don't forget to setup backups for whatever wiki you do go with, and make sure you can restore them when your wiki is broken ;)

Iirc crowdsec is like fail2ban but blocks ips reported by other servers, not just ones attacking your server. Kinda like a distributed fail2ban I guess?

I've tried lot of different apps, but I think I've settled on Trilium for now.

It doesn't have a great mobile experience, but the web app works fine on mobile. The app in general is super customizable and way easier to write scripts / plugins for.

Others have already mentioned the litter robot, but one automation you might find handy is having HA trigger a robot vacuum to go vacuum the room where the litter boxes are, after it detects a cat using it. It'd help keep litter off the floor if your cats like kicking it out of the boxes.

Also if you're having to clean litter boxes multiple times a day, how many do you have? Iirc the general rule is one litter box for each cat plus one extra, so for 4 cats you should ideally have 5 litter boxes.

Uptime Kuma can have a monitor that pings your gateway or google.com or something else on the Internet.

I'm not sure if it's simpler than smoke ping or not though, it's been too long since I used it

Is there a good way to handle e2e encryption on xmpp? I feel like that is one of the selling points of matrix. Iirc there was an OTR plugin for gaim/pidgin, but I have no idea what's normal these days

For anyone looking for an alternative, I really like Trilium so far. It's completely open source and the main dev and community seem great.

The performance is way better for me than SN. SN couldn't handle a large number of notes very well when I tested it last.

The only downside imo is there's no real mobile client, but the mobile web interface is still pretty good and usable.

I'm not an expert and it's definitely possible they're shit, but I remember doing research for buying new smoke detectors and finding out about all the different types of them. Like some don't even care about smoke, they only care about heat. And others use different methods of detecting smoke that can be better for different types of fires (kitchen grease fire vs electrical fire).

Anyway I had no idea there was more than one type, I feel like that should also be made more obvious when buying new ones.

I'm not very good at deciding on where to document things, so I have a mix of BookStack, Dokuwiki, and Obsidian currently.

I really like Dokuwiki but I like the UI/UX of BookStack better so I'm working on a plugin to sync bookstack and obsidian. I'll probably get rid of Dokuwiki after that.

The main reason for syncing with obsidian is that I want documentation that isn't stored on the thing it's about, in case my servers completely die.

In another thread, someone reminded me that TiddlyWiki still exists, it's also a pretty cool little tool.

Self documenting, eh? I may be familiar with the same process.
