I am proud to now be able to say with certainty that my '25 will be better than my '24.

You'd be correct, the first episode is indeed very dull and boring. I'd recommend to start from Season 4.

I feel like Seinfeld reveled in the naughty pleasure of schadenfreude

Seinfeld should be the baseline for commonsense humour

Hey @loadingartist@lemmy.world, how did you learn to draw facial expressions like the ones in the comics? I always notice them because they're super realistic!

Welp, now I am curious. There are like 10 billion of us, this can't not happen.

I flew Prague -> Brussels once and perhaps a third of the plane seemed to be commuting government people. It might have been due to the time of week though.

I'm a sucker for non-flat UI themes. I've stuck to Adwaita for a long time cause it seemed to resist the trend of flattening everything, but recently I switched to GNOME 43 and now Adwaita's fully flat too. Does anyone know of any nice and crisp skeuomorphic themes? (besides the elementaryOS theme)

Also, it seems there are currently 3 active themes on my system: the legacy Gtk 3 theme, the normal Gtk 4 theme, and the libadwaita gtk4 theme. I've only found a way to change the first of those three (via Tweaks)...

Just posting my list of filter words on here in case anyone else wants to make their feed politics-free

Biden, District, EU, alt-right, democrat, democrats, desantis, elections, far right, far-right, federal, gop, Jan, maga, nomination, representatives, republican, republicans, senate, senator, trump

It's quite refreshing.

Sometimes when I stay up late doing something creative I end up getting this very comforting feeling about the future. A sort of certainty that everything will work out in the end and that ~~luck~~ happy coincidences will always be on my side. If I had this sort of confidence throughout the day, I would live a much more pleasant and relaxed life. Since it makes me forget about all the hurdles I am grappling with in life, it makes excited about the future once again (like I was in my early teens before all the new responsibilities started weighing on me), and makes me want to go out there and live life to the fullest.

Does anyone else experience this feeling as well? It's always gone by the morning but if I could internalize it it could be life changing. Do you have any idea how?

Sorry for the geek post...

I know these are currently out of fashion but I'm still thankful they exist.

Let's remind ourselves of devices that use(d) these standardized batteries:

  • Toys
  • Digital cameras
  • Torches
  • Gadgets like fans
  • Wireless keyboards
  • TV remotes

Thanks to having a standardized system of batteries,

  • You can use the same battery across several devices. This is a no brainer but it's very practical.
  • Batteries can charge quicker thanks to being put in a dedicated charger and not being limited by USB cables. (But yes I concede that USB has been updated for faster charging over the years)
  • Devices don't have down time when their battery is charging. To charge, the battery is removed from the device and can immediately be replaced with a fresh one.
  • You'll never have to trash a device due to an expired battery. Just buy a replacement. And building on this...
  • Any improvements in future battery technology can be retro-fitted into your existing devices. And there is a high incentive for future improvement, because...
  • An accessible (due to easy replacement) and large (due to many devices) battery market is very attractive to competition.

If you look at the pros I listed, they all happen to be things that would be very useful for electric cars. So I think it would aid the adoption of electric cars if their batteries were standardized too.

I've realized that I'm very mentally weak and it's impacting my success.
I suspect I have ADHD and whenever I get an urge to distract myself, I rarely manage to resist it.
I think what I am missing is the residtance to discomfort that eg. allows sports people to carry on going even when their muscles are telling them to stop. Or the thing that allows people to defy themselves and step into an ice-cold shower.

Unfortunately I am not a person who enjoys sports and a cold shower is only something that makes sense once a day. Can you think of any exercises that I can do here and now in my room, and practice routinely that will strengthen my willpower so that I can better resist my urges in the future?
