If you live in the states, Libby is a lifesaver. It's an online audiobook thing for libraries. You can use your library card to check out audiobooks through the app. And if you're unable to use Libby for some reason, I've heard mobilism has a lot of audiobooks for free

I have to write a paper about a place/time that I have an emotional attachment to or a place that has shaped my sense of self. I haven't really felt much of an attachment to anything for most of my life. Even if I did, I wouldn't even know how to begin describing the nature or cause of that attachment. I chose to write about the woods by my childhood home because I spent a lot of time there as a kid but I couldn't tell you how I felt about it in the moment or even how I feel about it now. I literally don't have the words

The animals are doing a cute thing and given the context of the previous panels, that means something bad. The TV narrator gave the viewers some time to marinate in their suspicion before confirming (via disappointed nodding) that they should not find the bird sitting on a frog cute, but sad. The whole comic is a reference to nature documentaries. Where the events depicted in them are usually tragic despite the animals potentially being cute/endearing

We've been completely reduced to revenue streams for those that already have unimaginable wealth and it's killing us. The transparent abuse and exploitation is so beyond parody it wraps around to sounding like a joke. Then you realize it isn't a joke and get more depressed

Fiction! (lemm.ee)

I've finally fallen in love with reading again over the last year. Problem is I've only been reading non-fiction. it makes my brain hurt. I'd like to have some stuff I can turn to when attempting to read gender trouble gives me another headache. I don't have any particular preference for genre. I used to read fantasy, historical fiction, dystopian stuff but I'm more than happy to explore other genres as well!

A short list of things I've read for reference:

  • The saxon stories, Bernard Cornwell
  • LOTR, the hobbit
  • 1984
  • The road, Cormac McCarthy
  • The plague dogs, Richard Adams

Had this epiphany last night when we went to an asian fusion place. The similarities are uncanny

The woman is reading The Virtue of Selfishness by Ayn Rand. The meme is using the book as a caption, to highlight the selfishness of the woman's actions (not wearing a mask). There's an additional layer as well.

Ayn rand is an (incredibly horny) author. She developed Objectivism, a philosophical school of thought that functions off the idea of knowledge and values are objective. That "they exist and are determined by the nature of reality, to be discovered by one's mind, and are not created by the thoughts one has". Objectivism is popular among conservatives as it appeals to their world view. The "facts over feelings" crowd in particular loves to dickride Ayn Rand.

Some notable fans of her work include Elon Musk, Peter Theil, Amber Heard, Ben Shapiro, and Jordan Peterson. That's not relevant to the meme, I just want to highlight that objectivism is a joke and the people who support it are awful.

I refuse to accept Texas' claim on y'all. Its a word collectively owned by everyone south of the mason-dixon line and I will fight to the death over this.

Signed, floridaman

Posing as a human rights lawyer and illegally aiding in the torture of POWs at Guantanamo is the best way of forming a valid opinion on Iraq!
