Chabad-Lubavitch Jews are not your normal Jews. They are the most orthodox of orthodox Jews and they are fucking nuts, so digging a secret tunnel for no apparent reason and then refusing to leave the tunnel doesn't really surprise me. Frighteningly, there are around 100,000 of these nuts worldwide.

The Haredi would like a word.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 13 points 6 months ago

They're also fucking nuts.

Oooo this will really give some ammo for the tin foil boys

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 26 points 6 months ago (1 children)

So when cops show up there's a huge brawl and lots of people fighting cops to try and keep the tunnel open...

Then the synagogue put out a statement claiming theyre the real victim and had no idea extremists were illegally digging tunnels...

All why Israel flattens all of Gaza because they insist anyone living above the tunnel have to had notice a tunnel and that makes them complacent with the extremists?

The only difference is in this case we have actual proof the tunnel exists.

Chabadniks aren't explicitly Zionist and run the gambit from supporting Israel to denouncing it. They're crazy for their own reasons, but lumping them in with Israel just because they're Jews is a bad look.

I'm pretty old to never have been corrected on that before, thanks.

The Hasdic community in Brooklyn is notoriously right wing, and even have their own "police" who harras anyone from outside the community who comes into the area...

If they disagree with Israel on anything, it's probably because they think Israel isn't going far enough or aren't acting fast enough. If you have any source of them condemning Israel for the right reasons, by all means teach me something.

As far as I'm concerned, far right Abrahamic extremists are all the same, they're all doing terrible shit in the name of the exact same god, usually against each other, but tons of Innocents get caught in the crossfire.

I don't care which prophet they follow

Sometimes, people know what they're talking about...

So . . Vandals, or, mischevious youth? . . . Dug a tunnel into the synagogue? And fought with police who were . . Filling it back in?

I have no idea either what is happening or what I’m supposed to get from the story. It all sounds bizarre.

[–] Pipoca@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

It's part of a weird culty religious schism.

Basically, the mischievous youth think that their dead chief rabbi is coming back soon as the messiah and they have to prepare for his return by expanding his synagogue.

It sounds bizarre because honestly it is pretty bizarre.

SECRET TUNNEL!!

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

That’s what happens when G-d exempts you from planning laws but neglects to tell anyone else.

[–] Iamdanno@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 6 months ago (2 children)

G-d? Is that some way to not write god? Does he not like that?

[–] gramie@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Traditional Judaism believes that their real name of God is too holy to be used (except in prayer?), so they often blank out one or more letters.

[–] Iamdanno@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

He's a demanding fucker, G-d!

[–] BugKilla@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

Here, let me try... g_d... Fuck, you're right! Yehovah... Ok...that works.
