Some day I will try Sync, to see why people accept totaly unnecessary ads when there are plenty of free (beer, freedom, etc) adfree options out there. It must be one hell of a software.

It's a decent client, but I think Boost is a better non-FOSS alternative.
I have both, and have never seen an ad. So whatever ad delivery mechanisms they use is blocked by simple DNS based ad blocking.
I still prefer the FOSS client Voyager.
Boost + $3.49 to go ad free, here.
Since buying Reddit is Fun years ago, this is the closest thing to that experience I've came across.
I'm using sync and see ads despite having recently setup pihole with its default blocking list. If you're also using pihole, mind sharing which block lists you use?
Is your phone using your pi-hole for DNS? Or is it using Android/WiFi configured to use custom DNS e.g. 9.9.9.9, 1.1.1.1, etc.?
DuckDuckGo's Android app's VPN based ad blocker works to block it's ads, at least for me. I don't have a link to their host file though.
Check your Pi-Hole logs to see if your phone shows up, and if so, open Sync and see what pops up in your logs.
I've tried lots of others, both during the Reddit days and now during the Lemmy days. None of them let me get the exact layout I want other than sync. But that's just like my opinion
You actually want a layout that includes ads?
There is an IAP to remove ads. Yes, there are free alternatives, but Sync is superior in terms of design, customization options and features. Well worth it if you have the disposable income IMO.
It's just ... Does seeing the same information in a slightly different arrangement really mean that much to you? Especially when that information is probably 80% memes
Thunder?
I've only started paying to support the dev but haven't had ads on free version before. Adblock ftw
Jerboa user, no ads.
Do you have the link to the ad? So I can block it.
asking for a friend
I'd be reeeeal hesitant to use any site like that for any reason. Guaran-teed they'll hand over all the data they have on you in an instant if anyone came asking
Especially relevant considering you can run your own, reputable software on any half-decent PC to generate AI images (not that you should use such a software for this purpose) without ever visiting a sketchy advertiser.
What date are they going to have I don't think they require a sign up. I really looked in detail, I kind of glanced at it, but it really doesn't look like you have to have a subscription or anything. I
Here is an alternative Piped link(s):
Piped is a privacy-respecting open-source alternative frontend to YouTube.
I'm open-source; check me out at GitHub.
The irony of this bot is that pipelinks actually prevent me from using Libre tube because it's not possible for it to register for every instance out there on Android. YouTube links actually let me use piped more easily
Pretty sure the dev should be able to block these types of ads.
The thing is, in my apps, I've turned off all sensitive categories in AdMob/Sense, and some risque ones still show up every now and then.
Whenever users report these to me, I first prove to them that I have indeed disabled such ads (screenshots of the dashboard), and then I straight up tell them to use ad blockers if it bothers them too much. Or at least use the report button in the ad itself.
Google's detection is pretty good but not infallible.
It's Google ads bro. Just go to your Google ads settings
Ads track you and the serve based on what they believe you are interested in
People look at porn, thatβs not the point..
If you have targeted ads turned off they'll serve you all sorts of shit. I'd get the weirdest ads for stuff I definitely hadn't looked up, shown an interest in, etc before I started using ad blockers
Nah this is my regular phone, not my smut laptop.
If itβs connected to the same router and has the same external IP address thenβ¦
As a engineer, it'll be exhausting to explain how my masturbation station and my phone are set up differently.
To be fair, so are entire universities.
Did you link your Google account to porn hub?
I've gotten things not too far off from this on fucking YouTube.
Yesterday, I got this ad on Youtube.
All I get is this
Same, I won't complain though ;)
It might be because I rejected cookies, tracking, or something.
I've seen a few overtly sexual ads in the app. At least this one was blurred.
Tap on the x provide the feedback to the advertiser and ((hopefully)) you'll get less ads tailored to your demographic.
The point is, this shouldnβt be served to ANY demographicβ¦ itβs clearly a person doing their job - not someone to run through an undressing appβ¦
Pretty sure she's all AI but the point still stands
I believe if you hit the X you can hide the ad and give a reason. The other icon takes you to an article that tells you how to change some settings, but it's a web of options.
This setting might be related, as it should allow you to toggle personalised ads in sites that partner with Google. The article at least mentions this.
You can find a support article on how to report ads as well in case you see any real sketchy stuff, but I was only able to report a handful of ads that were later confirmed to not be violating any rules. Even though those were crypto ponzi scheme ads presented by Phony Stark. Google doesn't care, they just want the ad revenue.
