Burkhardt's gambit has already had an impact. The Conroe school board, after listening to her story, voted to restrict access to Drama, the Scholastic book featuring a kiss, from all students in the 8th grade and below. One of the school board members, Melissa Dungan, suggested replacing Scholastic with SkyTree Book Fairs. "All glory to God," Burkhardt posted in response to the news.

"Mysterious" in that she was home schooled, never took part in a Scholastic book fair, and, in fact, works for a competing publishing company.

Yup... suuuuure is "mysterious!"

Not just a competing company. An expressly right wing one.

It's a fucking grift. It always is.

So.....couldn't Scholastic sue the pants off this lady and the company she obviously works for? She literally lied about the entire thing harming their business.

And it worked. That's the infuriating thing.

So if Drama cause a porn addiction…

… what do you think the Bible caused?

[–] toiletobserver@lemmy.world 25 points 7 months ago (3 children)

Rape, murder, arson, and rape

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 10 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Also incest, incestuous rape, delusions of grandeur, paranoia… health care avoidance, theft, grift and generalized bullshit.

Oh. Oh dear

Drama? By Raina Telgemeier? My third and fifth graders love that book series, along with Guts, Smile, Ghosts, and Sisters. Excellent books for young kids. Fuck bigots banning books.

The article also shows the kissing scene in question. It's possibly the tamest kissing scene possible. If seeing this sends a person into a debilitating porn addiction, then the problem rests with them and not with the book.

Of course, given that she works for a "competitor" of Scholastic, I highly doubt her story is true. The author and Scholastic should sue her for defamation.

So, who thinks the school board is in on the grift, and who thinks they're just a bunch of absolute morons?

[–] jaamesbaxterr@lemmy.world 9 points 7 months ago

Why not both

[–] JustZ@lemmy.world 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

What kind of absolute loser do you have to be to find Scholastic books too racy?

This woman is an absolute moron.

[–] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 3 points 7 months ago

She doesn't. She's just lying to push her agenda.
