Just wanting to be part of your tribe but findind hard to get an alternative for this. I would like to make payments by with the phone's NFC as I tend to avoid a physical wallet.

Let's back up. Have you ever seen the prototype cell phones that were a bunch of thin sheets of tree pulp, glued together, with a stylus based interface? The wal-let is a similar prototype tech

You can always just put your card inside your phone case.

I don't use my phone for NFC payments, but my bank has an app that can handle nfc payments. You could check to see if your bank has something similair.

There are few things I like about the over digitisation of our lives but I fucking hated cash. It might by my ADHD talking but I've lost so much cash over the years.

Well there is Samsung Pay...

Maybe you could get a phone case with a slot to store a credit card?

[โ€“] drascus@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Garmin watch with wireless pay. I use the venue sq but many in the Garmin line support wireless payment.

Yup thats my solution too. Was never really someone who payed with my phone before, i just carry a wallet. But having my credit card on my watch has saved me like 2-3 times in six months

Some Garmin watches have an NFC cc payment capability. Do you have any good guides youโ€™ve followed for the de-googling?

[โ€“] jonuno@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

Not following any specific guide , doing bit by bit as I get the info. Installed calyx (my device doesnt have compatibility with graphene sadly) , seeing what relies on google services, and trying to find alternatives

I do not use google wallet / samsung pay / apple pay / whatever....i carry a physical card, which is far less obtrusive than a phone...dont need a big chunk of leather around it

[โ€“] marciealana@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

PayPal has this functionally though you have to carry a balance in your account to use it.

Never used google-wallet.

I see many people using their banking app to either pay through NFC or to scan a QR code for an instant transfert. So not sure of the point of google-wallet.

But I am still one of the old one to carry a wallet/card with me

Wear your card in your sleeve like a magician

Or skin implant?

There are other alternatives like Apple Pay and Samsung pay, heck even your bank app might have similar features in place. You could start looking there. Alternatively, you could just use a credit card and tape it to the back of your phone?

[โ€“] solrize@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

I've never used anything like that and don't feel like I've missed anything. I do have a contactless credit card. It works out about the same way, I think.

[โ€“] notun@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I don't even know what Google Wallet is.
