In north Gaza, Israel’s campaign of systematic slaughter, destruction and starvation is now in its ninth week.

Meanwhile, at Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya, north Gaza, the United Nations reported that a team of six physicians from the Medical Emergency Rescue Committee in Indonesia was able to reach the hospital as part of a medical mission, delivering a fuel tank and medical supplies.

The UN stated that the hospital, which now hosts 63 patients including nine in the intensive care unit, has been functioning with extremely limited resources. It has been relentlessly attacked over the last two months.

Dr. Ahmed al-Kahlout, the director of the intensive care unit at Kamal Adwan, was killed in an Israeli attack on Friday as he reportedly entered the gate of the hospital.

Amnesty International released a “landmark new report” on Thursday 5 December. It concluded that Israel “has committed and is continuing to commit genocide against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip”. But nine hours later, BBC News was still nowhere to be found. The UK’s state broadcaster apparently had nothing to say about “the world’s best known human rights organisation” judging a close British ally to be guilty of genocide.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on Tuesday declared martial law, suspended the South Korean legislature and banned elected representatives from accessing the National Assembly building using massive police presence.

And then six hours later he rescinded the order.

President Yoon had declared in a public address to the Korean people that the move was to protect a “liberal South Korea from the threats posed by North Korea’s communist forces and to eliminate anti-state elements.” He said: “I will restore the country to normalcy by getting rid of anti-state forces as soon as possible.”

But all the members of South Korea’s National Assembly, which Yoon had shut down, voted to reverse Yoon’s edict Tuesday and he then heeded the call.

Jihadist forces have invaded the Syrian city of Aleppo (Heleb) as part of a new escalation in the country’s ongoing proxy war. But the Kurdish-majority neighbourhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud (Şêxmeqsûd) and Ashrafiyeh have been resisting the invading extremists.

Earth’s hottest recorded year was 2023, at 2.12 degrees F above the 20th-century average. This surpassed the previous record set in 2016. So far, the 10 hottest yearly average temperatures have occurred in the past decade. And, with the hottest summer and hottest single day, 2024 is on track to set yet another record.

All this may not be breaking news to everyone, but amid this upward march in average temperatures, a striking new phenomenon is emerging: distinct regions are seeing repeated heat waves that are so extreme, they fall far beyond what any model of global warming can predict or explain. A new study provides the first worldwide map of such regions, which show up on every continent except Antarctica like giant, angry skin blotches. In recent years, these heat waves have killed tens of thousands of people, withered crops and forests, and sparked devastating wildfires.

The Israel-Lebanon ceasefire began Wednesday morning. Less than two days later, it seems to be faltering, with multiple reports of Israeli attacks across southern Lebanon, and claims of violations by both sides.

Israel carried out an airstrike against the outskirts of Baysariyeh, which is near Tyre. They confirmed the attack, saying they were targeting a Hezbollah storage facility after seeing “terrorist activity.” They added in their statement that they were “acting to enforce violations of the ceasefire.”

Gaza needs 600 aid trucks per day to avert famine according to USAID. Biden asked Israel to let in 350.

Elbit Systems UK has lost its largest-ever British arms contract, worth over £2.1bn, after the Ministry of Defence (MoD) scrapped its Watchkeeper drone programme with Elbit subsidiary UAV Tactical Systems (U-TacS). It comes after Palestine Action sustained years of direct action against the company – which had already resulted in it losing several other contracts.

The Biden administration faced fierce criticism on Wednesday after using its veto power at the United Nations Security Council to block a resolution demanding an immediate, unconditional, and permanent cease-fire in Israel’s assault on the Gaza Strip.

The vetoed measure also called for all parties to implement a U.N. Security Council (UNSC) resolution passed in June—which would lead to the release of all hostages—and to enable Gaza civilians’ immediate access to basic services and humanitarian assistance.

Dark Reader is the best extention for this, pretty sure it's open sourced too!

A study published Tuesday estimates that tax dodging enabled by the United States, the United Kingdom, and other wealthy nations is costing countries around the world nearly half a trillion dollars in revenue each year, underscoring the urgent need for global reforms to prevent rich individuals and large corporations from shirking their obligations.

Israel was convicted of genocide against the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip by the People’s Tribunal, which brought together jurists, lawyers, and activists at the Fundição Progresso in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to judge the crimes of imperialism.

In 2019, the advertising/data science company System1 became the majority owner of Startpage. Based on this, I'd say it's worth finding an alternative to Startpage.

Anyone of the many SearXNG instances is your best choice for balancing privacy and quality results. It's open source, sources multiple search engines which you can control, is anonymous, and provides solid results. Here's a list of active SearXNG instances: https://searx.space/

I'm pretty sure just using the "sudo dnf update --refresh" command in terminal will fix this problem. It will ask you verify those packages new repositories. After that, you should be good using the store again for updates. This is assuming you upgraded from Fedora 40 before these errors occurred.

I love the KDE plasma theme Underworld. It's definitely black and pairs well with a ton of stuff. I like Breeze Dark as the global theme, Ball10050's Black color, and Underworld for the plasma style. This makes it all primarily black.

I trust the DivestOS team while I have no clue who runs Cromite. Plus, Bromite being abandoned made me look into other options, which makes me trust Divest to keep Mulch running longer than the Cromite team I guess.

Mulch is a mobile chromium browser made by DivestOS (same folks who make Mull). Maybe worth checking out over Cromite.

Be sure to include Nobara and Bazzite, both of which are gaming focused distros. Both are Fedora based, but Bazzite is known more as a SteamOS 3 clone. There's also another gaming focused distro, it just escapes my mind. But I love Fedora KDE as is and then just installing the required software. So I'd say add Fedora, Nobara, and Bazzite for sure!

KDE is the way! I've heard KDE called the swiss army knife of DE's, and I couldn't agree more! I'd be curious to see a comparison of Gnome and KDE users previous OS. I'd bet KDE has more windows converts and gnome favors mac, but I really don't hear about many mac folks switching to linux.

Guess it all comes down to your definition of makeover. In looking up the definition, it's defined as "a radical change in appearance, it may imply a change in clothing, haircut, or cosmetics". This being the case, I'd say the title's spot on. But it all comes down to how you define makeover regarding if the titles misleading. It's a bit ambiguous, so I see what you're saying.

I feel it, but at the same time, where does the title imply the statues were damaged? It's all about grabbing attention in order to bring focus to the disastrous situation we're in with our environment.
