Hotels be like: yes 06:00-07:30 is the time most people eat, let's have breakfast then

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 59 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

That's the thing I hate the most about free hotel breakfast: by the time normal people get up, they've already shut it down for the day. I swear they do it on purpose to save money.

[–] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (14 children)

Just how late do you wake up?

I often stay at hotels for work, and by 8AM I'm leaving so I can be wherever I need to be at by 9, so yeah, breakfast needs to be around 7h30.

Even at home this is a usual schedule, since commuting is a pain.

By 10AM at the latest probably most places also need to wrap up service so they can clear up and prepare to serve lunches in a couple of hours.

It's not that unreasonable...

[–] ahornsirup@feddit.org 24 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

At home that's the schedule because I have to get to work. It's not a choice. But on vacation I'm not going to force myself to get up at 6 or 7. Certainly not if I'm out till 4, which is something that happens on occasion (less nowadays, but still).

[–] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

And why would you wake up at 6 or 7? There are zero hotels that end breakfast service at that time, that's just a bullshit argument.

What I'm saying is that they need to start early to accommodate other people staying there, and that at some point they need to start lunch, so if you wake up at 11 that's perfectly reasonable, just don't expect the world to hold for your lordship to come back to the land of the living.

[–] Barbarian@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago

Also, if you get up at 11, you could just go get lunch.

[–] Zenith@lemm.ee 2 points 2 weeks ago

I wake up naturally around 8:30, typically don’t eat until about 10, breakfast should be served until 11 considering brunch is from 11-2 most places

Me who wakes up for work at 4am but doesn't eat anything till 11am.

[–] wieson@feddit.org 18 points 2 weeks ago

Many guests are actually there for work. If breakfast opens at 7, that's a little late for my liking. I gotta finish and drive over to the client and start timely.

Yes, def this.

I trust housekeeping just walks in, sees me sleeping, gently smooch me on the forehead & quietly leave the room.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 20 points 2 weeks ago

Paid for the whole room gonna use the whole room

[–] isar@lemm.ee 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I swear it's the blackout curtains. I'll draw them tight on the first night, then have a surprise in the morning if I didn't set my alarm.

[–] PyroNeurosis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago

Free breakfast ends at 10, but I'll be damned if I dont eat it and go straight back to bed.

[–] trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world 44 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

In a lot of hotels people in other rooms start making noise around that time anyway, so you might as well get up and enjoy a big breakfast that you dont have to prepare yourself

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 36 points 2 weeks ago

Also: you paid for that shit, damn well gonna eat it while its out there.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 2 points 2 weeks ago

Well, I probably woke up all of them 2 hours earlier stumbling to my(-ish) room.

(Just kidding, I super don't like to make noise regardless of my state.)

[–] Lembot_0003@lemmy.zip 38 points 2 weeks ago

7:00 -- breakfast
8:00 -- continue to sleep

[–] Plagiatus@lemmy.world 25 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

People sleeping in uncovered blankets and pillows triggers me so hard, why do people do that?

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 12 points 2 weeks ago

Stupid sexy blankets that are wearing nothing at all!!

[–] Plagiatus@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Basically. Don't actually know what the right word is for which part of the bedding, so I went for that. 😅

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 7 points 2 weeks ago

Duvet cover?

[–] EtherWhack@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

I think they're talking about the duvet

[–] Threeme2189@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 weeks ago

You put a blanket on your blanket?

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 21 points 2 weeks ago

I think its the fact that you dont have to prepare the food. You wake up, throw some shit on and just fuck off to eat for an hour straight because they have all the food you would ever want.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

A change in environment often energizes people.

[–] timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That and you pay good money to go on vacation. Why would you waste it sleeping, which you can do anywhere?

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

but you can't do it anywhere. you have work, responsibilities. the whole point of vacation is to take a break.

[–] timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

Absolutely not the case for me personally. If it were I'd just stay home and save the money then.

Not if I'm by myself in the hotel/trip.

I/someone paid for the bed & I'm gonna use it.

[–] BreadstickNinja@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

They'll still stop serving breakfast at 9 sharp and you'll be hungry until lunch. 🙁

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I'm not one of those people that needs to eat at precise intervals or even every day. I just eat when in hungry for something.

In summer dinner is usually my first (and often only) meal.
I almost never eat breakfasts (especially if I woke up "only" a few hours ago). Never could, even parents wanted me to but I just had better days without breakfast as a kid so they stopped insisting.

I assume that when I travel I have access to food basically everywhere or else I know I have to plan that - which again I do in a way that I eat when I want.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

The extra hours of sleep are well worth the cost of a non-complimentary breakfast whenever I'm ready for it.

[–] bieren@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

To be fair. At home I ain’t got shit to do. On vacation, there’s always something to do…even rushing to the pool/beach to do more nothing.

... because you want to or because breakfast ends before you normally get up?

[–] Joncash2@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Am I missing the joke here? Your God damn right I'm going to be up eating the delicious breakfast buffet when I'm on vacation. And your also right that I'm going to sleep until lunch on the weekends so I don't need to expend effort for breakfast. I literally can't see doing this any other way.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

Also of course I will be up early if I'm at a hotel so I can get the most time out of my stay. Because I'm most likely somewhere where I want to experience things.

🤷‍♂️

[–] NewNewAugustEast@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

If I am on vacation I miss about 95% of all breakfasts in Hotels. They are too early.

And if it is a free breakfast it usually is garbage anyways.

There are exceptions but they are very rare.

[–] Engywuck@lemm.ee 5 points 2 weeks ago

Spot on. I love being almost alone with my breakfast, tons of coffee and my book.

[–] jpreston2005@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

I just back from vacation, stayed at a hotel that had free breakfast from 6-9. I was in that hotel for a full week, didn't make it to breakfast once. Felt like a waste of money, waking up at noon and walking to a breakfast place nearby, but I'd rather pay for a meal than wake up early so 🤷‍♂️

[–] Beacon@fedia.io 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] lnxtx@feddit.nl 3 points 2 weeks ago

I'm not hungry at the morning anyway.

f*ck morning people
f*ck morning, people
f*ck, morning people

...the last thing i want is to interact with another living soul before 11.30, preferably not before 13.30: i wish they were dead, or at least not a part of the world i live in...

[–] LanguageIsCool@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

You’re spiritually a morning person, just in another time zone.
