Just to be clear, we pay the cost of tariffs on imports.

[–] Test_Tickles@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

And call it whatever you want, it's a tax. It's a tax that Americans have to pay on foreign goods. A tax Republican tax.
So not only do they spend massively more than the Democrats, they also tax significantly more.
Spend and tax Republicans.

Use black plastic bag as packing materials but leave small holes for microbes to breathe!

[–] 1024_Kibibytes@lemm.ee 13 points 2 weeks ago

Do not leave the holes. That way they won't know it smells bad until it gets opened

Are pebbles allowed currency?

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Since she's now retirement age (Flintstones started airing in 1960), I'd guess she isn't.

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 9 points 2 weeks ago

Feel old yet? She just discovered Republican tariffs wiped out her retirement account...

[–] Cocopanda@futurology.today 9 points 2 weeks ago

Old enough to pee old enough for Trump.

Swear on your fathers sardines.

[–] JadenSmith@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

On my father's sardines, I hope this becomes a phrase.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 weeks ago

WE HAD A DEAL!!

Can I send a half eaten can of tuna that I left out in the sun for a week?

[–] 843563115848z@lemm.ee 14 points 2 weeks ago

That's the point. Well done!

[–] SpicyColdFartChamber@lemm.ee 16 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Can we not have AI slop be the normal for memes? It's not that difficult to make this.

[–] ignotum@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Not difficult but takes time, whis is why most memes in history were just premade images with some text slapped on it

Stop complaining

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 4 points 2 weeks ago

Ofc being low effort is the way of the meme, however being snobbish about memes is peak internet culture too.

I'll be a snob. Not because it changes things but whining is cathartic. I'm not picking sides here, if you're team practical that's cool too.

[–] SpicyColdFartChamber@lemm.ee 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Don't you have to pay for this?

[–] ignotum@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Pay for what? Image generation is free (but usually limited) many places, and you can also run it for "free" (ignoring the negligible electricity cost) on your home computer if you want to

[–] SpicyColdFartChamber@lemm.ee 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Pay for the image generation? (Like you said it's limited and not free).

free" (ignoring the negligible electricity cost) on your home computer if you want to

Stable diffusion is alright, but it's not very accessible, you can literally put stuff together in paint.

But this AI slop has recently started getting more prevalent (after the scam altman Ghibli trend shit) and this is most definitely the chatgpt AI slop.

I just don't want to support those corporate pieces of shit anymore than I have to.

[–] ignotum@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I said it is free many places, but typically not fully featured or with a limited number of daily generations. They loose money if you use these free options so shouldn't you be advocating for their use?
There's also free tools that makes it easy to run it locally

Yes AI slop is getting more prevalent, so what? If someone can either create a meme in a minute using AI, or spend fifteen minutes making the same thing in paint, why do you think you can come and demand that they waste their time to do it the slow way?

Edit: you haven't posted a single meme on that account, open paint and be a good role model

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This is at least more interesting to look at than the same comic panel with replaced text for the umpteenth time

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

Support consumerism, commission your memes

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I mean you're the one paying the government tariff on the imported fish caught by Australian penguin.

[–] helvetpuli@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 weeks ago

And there's not much point dumping them into Boston harbour.

[–] errer@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It’s a old siclian message, it means democracy sleeps with the fishes

[–] 20cello@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Never heard of it, maybe it's from some old mafia movie?

[–] OccultIconoclast@reddthat.com 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

So what's all this about penguin tariffs?

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 weeks ago

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/03/business/economy/trump-tariffs-heard-mcdonald-islands.html

President Trump’s tariffs have spared almost no corner of the Earth. Even tiny, sparsely populated islands that export close to nothing.

Among the countries and territories listed on sheets of paper that were distributed to reporters in the White House Rose Garden on Wednesday were Heard Island and McDonald Islands, Australian territories near Antarctica where many penguins but no people live.
