NVidia is shitting the bed so hard it's just ridiculous. It feels almost intentional, like we're starting to leave the area of Hanlon's razor. 😂

Though, remains to be seen what AMD cooks up in this race to the bottom...

I doubt it, the consumer market is a tiny portion of what they sell at this point, they just don't care that much, they just tossed us scraps, that's who is a paper launch with technical difficulties

[–] Carighan@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

That's kinda what I meant with "feels intentional". Some manager went "Yeah fuck QA for consumer products, put those 50 people to work on business/AI stuff instead, we make fuck all money from consumers anyways".

The 45% come from the comparison with rx 7900 gre, which is 18% less powerful as AMDs flagship 7900 xt, so the flagship difference isn't as huge.

This seems unlikely considering it's designed as 5070 competitor

On the bright side, it's a great 600W room heater! And a portable fireplace (ignition cable included)!

With every month that passes, I feel ever more infuriated that so many of the programs I use are essentially hard-locked to Nvidia, with frankly miserable performance on other GPUs. Not the cards' fault, the software devs' fault for - when they even bother at all - doing a piss-poor job of integration with other GPUs.

true but nvidia could solve this problem in a day easily. they just have to admit that their business moved on and they make more money with ai. then open source and cc-license all gaming related gpu tech. then the gaming graphics landscape will flourish.

right now they have a walled garden but forgot to build a gate into the wall so it's just there to allow the 10 gpu owners to upload cool 4k Cyberpunk videos

I can't wait for Intel to step up their game and for AMD to reengage. We really need the competition.

Yeah, they think ai crawlers won't be trained on their data if they ask nicely 😂

Its giving off “repost this message on Facebook so that Meta can’t use your comments” energy

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah, I laugh at it every time I see it.

"Oh yeah the AI was trained on 3000 zettabytes of illegally obtained/stolen data, but it'll totally respect me copy and pasting a line of text in my post!"

I've never given Nvidia a dime and will continue that trend.

I genuinely cant even remember the last nvidia card I bought... MX440 I think? (My old laptop did come with a 1050 QT, but its not like I had much choice in that, being a laptop and all..)

Not for lack of interest, its just..every time I've had to replace a GPU, AMD was the better bang for buck option.

Course, most of that interest came from them monopolizing tech.. Like buying Ageia and getting rid of the dedicated card and integrating it onto their gpus, so only nvidia could use fancy PhysX stuff..

They're such fuckers. If you ever use Linux (or better yet, have used Linux in the past where Nvidia was a nightmare to get working) you'll hate them even more. Intel and AMD are literally plug-n-play. Nvidia? Prepare for a ton of shit to come your way.

Its why my laptop is still on windows 10

Cause the last time I tried to put linux on it (admittedly this was like..6 years ago), it was an absolute fucking nightmare.. 75% of the reason being the goddamn graphics card, and 25% of the reason being piss poor power management that ruined my battery after a week of trying to get it to work before giving up.

its also why my desktop is all AMD, just for the lack of headache with linux. Don't even have to do any driver purges or reformats when I changed cards.

but with Windows 10 getting ended soon, I guess I'm gonna have to roll the dice again and see how far nvidia support has come because I'll rather be fucked by a elephant than use 11.

[–] penquin@lemm.ee 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yup. I got a laptop from a friend with an Nvidia/Intel hybrid graphics and it was an absolute nightmare on Linux until I install pop os on it. They have somehow got it working with no issues. So, if you're coming over, try pop os on that laptop and see.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

My laptop is the only device I have that isnt linux, lol. I otherwise came over a long time ago :p
