I can confirm Method 2A works. The actual conversion to epub is automated, but I did have to clean up the metadata for many of my books, but that's understandable.

I used this project today and it worked well. But bare in mind that the download book are still encrypted with a DRM scheme and you will have to work around that in some way if you want to be able to read the books outside of a specific Kindle device.

So far I haven't found anything for Mac or Calibre that works. I tried a sketchy program that wanted $30 before I noped out. I don't even have $30 worth of books to get out.
