On February 1, President Trump signed executive orders that will slap 25% tariffs on all products from Mexico and Canada, and 10% tariffs from China, ostensibly to punish those governments for failing to stop undocumented immigration and fentanyl shipments into the United States (‘stopping the flood of illegal aliens and drugs” according to the White House fact sheet).

 

US arms suppliers recorded a 29% jump in sales in 2024 and constituted a total share of 42% of the world’s total arms trade in 2023.

 

Today, the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Finance and Intergovernmental Affairs, and the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced that the Government of Canada is moving forward with 25 per cent tariffs on $155 billion worth of goods in response to the unjustified and unreasonable tariffs imposed by the United States (U.S.) on Canadian goods.
