Summary

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman plans to donate $1 million to Donald Trump’s inauguration fund, aligning with other tech giants like Meta and Amazon.

Altman expressed support for Trump’s AI-focused agenda to maintain U.S. leadership in the field.

This comes amid Altman’s legal dispute with Elon Musk, who is leading Trump’s new Department of Government Efficiency.

Musk, a former OpenAI investor, has accused the company of abandoning its public-benefit mission.

The donation highlights tech executives’ efforts to build ties with the incoming administration.

This just a protection racket. Their competitors who don't donate will be hurt first. We live under organized crime now.

They're probably right.

Trump can say he won them over and that all of our best tech companies are friends of the government and him personally (which are the same to him). That's pretty close to Trump's favorite thing.

Scumbags. All of them. Now not even trying to hide it. Capitalism really IS organized crime.

My guess is that Trump is collecting "protection" money. It's not racketeering of he's the president, right?

What exactly is this inaugural fund being used for? Is it legal? They just bribing Trump with money?

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 week ago

Look at the missing money from his 2016 inauguration for the answer.

I don't believe that was ever resolved, though Melania was involved somehow.

[–] msage@programming.dev 6 points 1 week ago
