My son got into chess recently and I told him about this game. I was surprised to see that there hasn't been some sort of remake of this game, since I loved it when I was growing up!

This game was such a visual showpiece. It'd be hard to reproduce that feeling today, I think.
Even then fans of chess games mostly felt it was mediocre as a chess game and kind of annoying to play for long stretches, but pretty to look at. I don't know what the equivalent of that is in 2024.
You play it once and love it, then set up a board to see all possible combinations, then never touch it again, because you've seen everything and the animations slow down gameplay to an extremely annoying degree.
There also was a Star Wars version. Have that lying around somewhere.
Oh really? My son would love that. Do you know the name?
Just Star Wars Chess.
Nice! Was cool to watch all the combat. I wish they did it in place like Battle Chess rather than doing little cut scenes. Still pretty cool though.
There actually is an "official" remake also published by Interplay but it's unfortunately not very good and I really can't recommend it at its current price: https://store.steampowered.com/app/200150/Battle_Chess_Game_of_Kings
isn't the original here? https://store.steampowered.com/app/622830/Battle_Chess/
Yep that's the original!
Fantastic game, had it for DOS
the graphics were incredible at the time but it slowed down actual play.
i wonder if anyone remembers Archon, where you really fight for the spot. so fun.
I had this on Amiga and it was awesome. I don't remember slow animations... But could have been fond memories.
Or different computer specs.
i played this, big rig, and jack nicklaus golf at my dads house every weekend. :3
I sunk untold hours into this
