how does this differ from profiles in grapheneos? i've not used stock android so i don't know if it also has profiles but i used to use them for work related things.

Anyone know if this works fine alongside work profiles (seems like it doesnt conflict) and if apps like insular/shelter are going to be able to configure the private space?

Edit: partially answered my question. Set up a private space just fine (though I can't access it since I'm not using the OS launcher) and it doesnt conflict with the work profile.

You also don't need to create another google account for it.

It's not an OS feature if it only works with the stock launcher.

It's not private if it requires a Google account to use the feature. Edit: apparently you do not need a google account to use the feature, if so then I just hope it makes it into AOSP so we can use it on custom roms.

I don't believe it requires a Google account.

I just used it on grapheneos, it does recommend you use a separate Google account for the private space, but I don't have Google account on the phone, I was able to create a private space without any issue.

This feels very much like a second profile, like a workspace. So now you can have three profiles on your main phone login. Normal, private, work.

That's nice. I would have liked it if the lock button wasn't there, better to not reveal it at all.... Upon checking the settings, there is a hide option. So yeah this is great

I hid my private space, and now I can't unhide it. I have to go through settings to show it again. Supposedly you should be able to open it by searching for "private space". Might be a GOS bug.

This is perfect for banking apps, password managers, anything that you don't need to get notifications from

You need the G account to be able to install apps from Play Store, I don't believe the private space itself requires it.

Not sure if there's some Play "integrity check" on stock ROMs, but on GOS I was able to create the private space and download&install F-droid or other APKs just fine, without a Google account.

You don't need a Google account to use either Private or Work space, and Google recommends using an alternative account to your main one.

Oh for fucks sake - Google!

Seriously??

Hypocrisy at its finest.

But then again, after the 2 seconds of rant, that was expected.

Android is getting more and more "private" while all data is tunneled to Google itself. They are just liquidating the competition.

You're getting angry at misinformation.
