I can't be the only one who thinks having a bot to go round pestering people for saying things like barmen is a little ridiculous right?

[-] MargotRobbie@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago

Bots on reddit are just so universally annoying and most of them provide no value at all. Most of them should have been banned on sight anyways.

[-] learningduck@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

"most bots" leave auto summarize bot, reminder bot, repost detection bot about of that.

I modded a niche outdoor community sub and I banned every bot that found its way there. Sorry, but we don't need a metric conversion bot nor a grammar correcting bot.

[-] MargotRobbie@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Yeah, because the best part of reddit was the human interaction, and having bots proliferate everywhere just kills that entirely.

[-] Beliriel@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

The auto-tldr bot was/is pretty useful

There was one for a while that told you how many times you left a comment saying "nice." It had a leaderboard and the top ones had done it some tens of thousands of times.

[-] TrippyTortuga@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I got a similar reply from a mod account (I forget which subreddit) because I used the word "crazy." Got linked to this list: https://www.autistichoya.com/p/ableist-words-and-terms-to-avoid.html

[-] flashgnash@lemm.ee 11 points 1 year ago

That's so dumb, I think you have to be going out of your way to get offended by the word crazy

[-] dog@lemm.ee 12 points 1 year ago

dumb

omg your ableims is amazingly strong i bet u also like genocide and domestic violence omg

That page has to be satire... right?

The whole "police your language, so there's no chance anyone could ever be offended" idea is such an oppressive path to a more equal society.

[-] eldoom@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

I mean I hope so? One of the top offensive terms was wheelchair bound..

Blind to ____ / turn a blind eye to ____ / blinded by ignorance/bigotry/etc. / double-blind review Refers to Blind, low-vision, or sight-limited people. Often used as a metaphor. Consider instead: willfully ignorant, deliberately ignoring, turning their back on, overcome by prejudice, doubly anonymous, had every reason to know, feigned ignorance

Those alternatives dont mean the same thing.

Double Annoymous seems better

They should have replied:

0 rows changed. OK.

Or:

BOT.EXE: Command not found

just to see if the other guy keeps trying.

[-] maniel@lemmy.ml 31 points 1 year ago

it's just common joke, looks like dev got wooshed

[-] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 32 points 1 year ago

I think dev is pointing out how poorly it was applied here; the whoosh is you.

[-] grue@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

We are all whooshed on this blessed day.

someone tell the bot author about xkcd #327

[-] c0mbatbag3l@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

I'm pretty sure this exact XKCD was posted to Lemmy the other day and is most likely the reason this comment was made entirely.

[-] dog@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

it's a very very popular xkcd comic strip, much more in the programming community

because it's funny

get it? funny

i said a funny word ("funny")

By the way, Barmen is a city in Germany, in context to the original post

Original Post

[-] Bruce@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

And all those posts have 1 karma. These Gerpersons have some serious temper.

[-] onlooker@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 year ago

How did the author know the poster was in his 40s? Or was it just a guess?

[-] hglman@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 year ago

Who else is making sql injection attack jokes?

[-] abc123@lemmy.fmhy.ml 9 points 1 year ago

People like to creep through others' post history to try and find a basis for ad hominem attacks when their comment or argument isn't clever enough to stand on its own

[-] Hawk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 year ago

Post history probably

[-] downdaemon@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 year ago
[-] Denaton@programming.dev 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yeah, it is a joke on xkcd and the joke is based on SQL injection, a type of database attack.

[-] bobbytables@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Nice! My mom used to do that.

No, bartenders.

[-] Jakylla@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 year ago

Don't know why he's so annoyed, maybe you didn't throw his database, but still something happened, I'm pretty sure...

[-] agressivelyPassive@feddit.de 16 points 1 year ago

No, it's just a pretty lame joke that got repeated like five million times.

Unfortunately our community breeds an extremely self-referential, repetitive humour that can get quite annoying. Like that one guy pissing his pants laughing because 42 hahahaha.

[-] Serdan@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago

We still have more jokes than anarchy chess, though

[-] dylanTheDeveloper@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Sounds like someone needs to google en passant.

Honestly it's pretty rare for this sub to have genuinely good jokes

Most are just really forced jokes based around CS101 concepts shared by college students, most of the rest are the same few jokes told over and over like you said, and only a tiny proportion are genuinely clever programming jokes

[-] AnonymousLlama@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

That guys response is still only half as annoying as seeing continual bot spam, especially from useless pretentious ones that provide no value like this one

[-] akariii@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago

new inside joke just dropped

Who tf even uses barmen I've never heard that before

[-] xyzinferno@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Someone in this thread linked the original post, which was referring to a town called Barmen
