Donald Trump has been in a New York court today to defend himself against charges of longtime financial fraud, but during a recess in the proceedings, he targeted the judge hearing his case with a livid, deluded eight-minute rant.

... He ruled we lost a big part of the case because he's a Democrat club politician. He's a Democrat operative. And he's a disgrace to people that call themself judges. And I hope my lawyers go in, and I hope they fight him very hard. ‘Cause this guy's getting away with murder. And his clerk should not be allowed to be in his ear on every single question. You take a look at what's happening with her. She hates Trump more than he does. [...]

This is a judge that should be disbarred. This is a judge that should be out of office. This is a judge that some people say could be charged criminally for what he's doing. He’s interfering with an election, and it's a disgrace.

Referring to Judge Arthur Engoron, who will decide the financial penalties that Trump might owe, Trump repeatedly referred to him as a "rogue judge," an "operative," and a "disgrace."

At other points in the rant, he snarled that the attorney general overseeing the case, New York’s Letitia James, is "a corrupt person, a terrible person driving people out of New York," and said that "people" saw this "egregious trial, this horrible, horrible trial going off, while at the same time people are being murdered outside on the streets and nothing happens to those people that do the murdering."

As usual, Trump's speech was laced with apparent threats aimed at his judge.

And somebody has to fight because if you don't fight, our country is just gonna go down the tubes. This is election interference. This guy's a highly partisan person, and we can't let this stuff happen.

Members of Trump's base have regularly taken this "fight" language as permission to mount harassment campaigns and death threats against Trump's enemies of the moment, whether they be public figures or private citizens.

"I've been going through a witch hunt for years, so this is really now getting dirty between Jack Smith and between all of these DOJ people helping them along. This is a pure witch hunt for purposes of interfering with the elections of the United States of America," Trump falsely claimed before storming off. "It's totally illegal. This judge should be disbarred. He shouldn't be allowed to be a judge.”

If I pulled this shit on a judge, my bond would be revoked immediately and the bailiff ordered to remand me to custody in a concrete and steel box to await the trial's completion.

Fuck me, I had a judge threaten to revoke bond because I had the temerity to inquire about a public defender. Last month a judge sentenced (deferred) my ex to 10-days for fucking me on spring break visitation. And she had the fucking sense to STFU for the whole trial! Trump acts like these judges are his personal peons talking back at him.

And yes, I get it. The justice system has to be more than fair in these cases. You have to admit, it's a wild historical precedent and we must step carefully when throwing a President of the US in jail (yes, I believe he still gets that title). And I'm OK with that! But we can't get a solid gag order on this animal?!

(Not sure he's out of bail for this one. FFS, I literally can't keep up with the charges, courts, etc.)

I wish a judge would just throw the book at him for something minor. Sure it might create some controversy and he will weasel out but the court has every right too and if the only thing stopping them is the presidency... fuck it.

Hoping the headlines switch to him being behind bars soon

[–] RaoulDook@lemmy.world 45 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Well, he will find out soon enough with all these judges he's insulting and threatening. Maybe even this week

October 2024 - Former President Trump's legal team has filed lawsuits against several federal prison employees over complaints that a recent cheeseburger happy meal was tainted, quoting the now incarcerated president, "it taste like boo-boo".

Sources have confirmed that outside meals are not permitted, including that of McDonald's restaurants. Further that any alleged cheeseburger was likely smuggled in through something called a prison wallet.

Bad strategy. Even if he got off with a $2 fine, he’d call it an “injustice”. He’s gonna go off the rails no matter what, so might as well nail him to the wall.

He’s interfering with an election, and it's a disgrace.

This statement is so dementedly ironic that I think it may have damaged the time-space continuum.

Why do people continue to be surprised or appalled at whatever Trump has to say? We already know his game. Tomorrow he'll say that Biden personally slapped him at the oval office while declaring that he got away with stealing the election. He of course slapped him back. It was the best slap.

You may as well sit down and listen to the rants of the neighborhood crazy homeless person in the 7-eleven corner.

[–] magnetosphere@kbin.social 8 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

Good question.

By the time I get to the end of an article about him, nothing he says or does surprises me. Then I’m sick of hearing about him for a while, and avoid stories about him. In the meantime, I get used to normal people again and partially “reset”. Then I’ll come across another article that’s really more of the same, but it seems a bit different. Wash, rinse, repeat.

It’s unsatisfying and irrational, but it’s also the best explanation I have.

The one good thing about this trial is that America is realizing how chronically inadequate its laws are for expecting people in political office (or campaigning for) to behave within the law. Everyone is human and bound to abuse and the law should set clear boundaries to prevent that abuse.

Must be rough being a fancy lad born into extreme wealth originally derived from racist opportunist parentage, always getting your way, always having and taking license to hurt others for your own gratification because you can just hide behind a team of attorneys to protect you from the consequences of your own actions.

But enough about Elon Musk...

[–] nkat2112@sh.itjust.works 12 points 9 months ago

This comment is brilliant. Thank you!

[–] paddirn@lemmy.world 61 points 9 months ago (1 children)

“People are being murdered outside on the streets and nothing happens to those people that do the murdering.”

For real, I heard some guy was standing out on 5th Avenue and shot a person in broad daylight and they never did anything about it.

[–] FReddit@lemmy.world 10 points 9 months ago

It's kind of turning out that way. This shit with legs should be in prison. But rich assholes can pull off staying out of jail.

[–] Open@lemmy.world 39 points 9 months ago (2 children)

They also forgot to request a jury which means the judge will be the decision maker in all of this

Trump losing his shit makes me so happy. I loath that man and his supporters

[–] catfish@programming.dev 36 points 9 months ago

I'm loving the court phase so far, his dumb stupid grimace says it all.

[–] Iamdanno@lemmynsfw.com 32 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Trump calling anyone "partisan" is laughable. Is anyone more partisan than him?

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 28 points 9 months ago (1 children)

He's not really partisan, he's all about himself he has about as much respect for the GOP as he has for women.

[–] Iamdanno@lemmynsfw.com 12 points 9 months ago (2 children)

par·ti·san

/ˈpärdəz(ə)n/

noun

a strong supporter of a party, cause, or person.

He's the strongest supporter of his person (himself). Sounds right to me.

[–] Trebach@kbin.social 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I think the more accurate term is narcissist because he only supports himself.

Ok, in that reading, I guess.

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 27 points 9 months ago (2 children)

This man is about to get the narrowest gag order ever written, lol. He literally can't open his mouth about this trial and not threaten or intimidate someone.

[–] Syndic@feddit.de 17 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Hasn't he already violated several gag orders without any consequences? Why should he stop now?

Any other person would have thrown into jail a long time already, but he keeps getting away with it.

Dude knows he's going down hard in the next 12 months. He has managed to skirt the law this long, but that long arm is tugging at him and he's scared shitless.

while at the same time people are being murdered outside on the streets and nothing happens to those people that do the murdering."

Isn't this the guy that referred to himself as "Teflon Don" because he could "stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose voters?"

What a chump.

interferes with election

Cries interferece when it's not even remotely related

[–] WaxedWookie@lemmy.world 19 points 9 months ago

Is he looking to add contempt of court charges to the pile too? IANAL, but this seems clear-cut.

[–] Treczoks@kbin.social 19 points 9 months ago (1 children)

That he turns to rant just shows that he long ran out of arguments. I hope the court will draw the right conclusions and revoke his bail for threatening the presiding judge.

But nothing about how his ability to hire the best people resulted in no jury for this trial because his attorney is repeatedly incompetent.

[–] magnetosphere@kbin.social 11 points 9 months ago (1 children)

That story gave me the warm fuzzies.

[–] mateomaui@reddthat.com 13 points 9 months ago

ikr? nothing like giving complete control to the judge who’s already so aggravated by your nonsense that he’s been leveling fines against the attorneys. just the best, most beautiful strategy.

[–] charonn0@startrek.website 9 points 9 months ago

The MAGA crowd was right about one thing.

Tears are tasty.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago (2 children)

what a bag of hot air. If only we could tap that for energy or something.

[–] knobbysideup@lemm.ee 8 points 9 months ago (1 children)

That would be a regression from clean energy though.
