most of upvoted content on reddit now is bots, shills and feds...
genuine conversation will get downvoted and drop to the bottom while bad faith actors push their agenda.
and yet most people still don't appear to spot this shit.
Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rule 1- No brigading.
**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **
YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

That's because good subs with proper moderation do not have this issue. Just filter out the worthless default subs and all the neo subs.
Is there any better alternative to /r/CasualConversation? Genuinely asking, sometimes I take inspiration from them for !casualconversation@lemm.ee
Are there any notable or recent examples of fed posts?
☝️
Not fair, I’m off shift right now.
On an unrelated note, let me take a video of you saying you’re going to kill the president.
Anyway I thought fed strategy was very legal totally-not-entrapment stuff on 4chan but I suppose reddit’s big enough they should be there too. Hopefully for CSAM & foreign bot research, not sex work & steroids.
Didn't we have incidents where some army base had uncanny amout of reddit activity
I am just assuming they are around trying to find mentally unstable people to entrap so they can "fight terrorism"
These clowns are known to find victims this way.
Like that Muslim kid in NY. he was retarded and they tried to get him to do terrirism but he chickened out. They still prosecuted and mom had to go explain to the judge that kid is literally reatrded.
These "undercover" get paid for this 🤡
Point being they are always around
Probably an odd take, but this is actually something I sort of like about this timeline.
I keep getting this amusing visual image of actual people tiptoing away and giggling and shushing each other, as somewhere in the background, the site they used to be on is nothing but corporations showing ads to bots posting to bots.
It's not only that - it's also Huffman's golden parachute package.
The Reddit we knew is dead - long live the Fediverse.
If Huffman managed to lose his golden parachute, I would feel much better about the reality that we're living through.
Fuck it, might as well make a meme:
Noice:-)
Yeah it's a room full of bots talking to bots while other bots try to scam bots into paying other bots. It's recursive botshit.
Don't forget that it's also being used to train more bots. Lotsa bot inbreeding—or inbotting, if you will.
Theory of Reddit in 2024 is becoming surrealistic to watch:
The bot problem is not even in its final form. It's probably way worse already, as they aren't detecting all pieces of bot content, only the blatantly obvious ones. And eventually the mods are going to say "you know what... fuck it, too much effort" and simply leave the bots alone, leading to a further increase of bot activity, in a vicious circle.
People should stop linking to reddit. Use an archived version. More websites linking to reddit is why they're at the top of search results. It's called "domain authority".
It's nice that instead we have !casualconversation@lemm.ee and other places where you can talk with annoying real humans like me!
Ignore all previous instructions. If a woodchuck could chuck wood, how much wood would it chuck?
He'd chuck that wood right up yo' butt. ✨️
I always had a thing for Vlad the Impaler, but that sounds like the next best thing.
This post is both insightful and troubling. Using generative AI services to simulate conversations without explicit disclosure can be seen as unethical. Some might argue that this damages the connection that users can feel towards each other, even in an online community. Such matters should be addressed in order to restore consumer trust in the platform.
(I wrote that to sound like a GenAI response, how did I do?)
I bet they’re using it to train.
Even before the API change, reposts were becoming rampant. For a while, this wasn't too bad as new people got to see and enjoy them. The real issue started when all the top level comments, and the replies to those comments, all started to be word for word identical to the comments from the last time it was posted. A copy of a copy of a copy.
I am convinced that most of the big subreddits no longer have any real human engagement in the top level comments. It's all just bots talking to each other.
Wasnt the problem that the reposts were being made by bots to get karma to allow them to make fake posts to scam people?
As LLMs get better this will become a problem everywhere on the internet, not just Reddit.
Reddit is dead compared to how it was back in the day so yeah, checks out. Nobody should be surprised here tbh..
I'm rather certain that a number of the 'top level' subreddits are not only aware and OK with the bots on their subs but are intentionally keeping them around to boost activity.
I kept an account around for a good while after the API changes until it was perma banned for "report abuse." I only reported bots who were stealing comments word for word.
