We believe there is a biological sex difference. I've been hearing this for about 8 years, Google it. They say the x chromosome is coded for more immune system boosters; women have 2 & men, obviously, have just the one. They also think testosterone, while excellent for daily tasks & power, might lend some immuno-suppressant qualities.

What is man flu? Genuinely curious, I always thought it was just a kinda tongue-in-cheek razz. Have you experienced differences while/after transitioning?
Being sick is just worse in a testosterone based body. Your symptoms are worse and you just feel more tired, mild colds aren't so mild anymore. And Wikipedia has an interesting page about it..

I'm thoroughly convinced that the reason women tolerate the flu better than men is that they're simply more used to feeling like shit every once in a while and just putting up with it. If you get periods every month, then feeling a little sick from a cold/sore throat is not a big deal in comparison.

In the US, both men and women try to ignore and downplay sickness, because we have a limited number of sick days and sometimes even if we take them we get fired.

This meme spoke to me from a slightly different angle, non-job related but more abot how we perceive our own bodies as a reliable tool. One thing is an understandable physical injury you can rationalize like you did A and got B, but when your body is slow to recover or show weird signals you don't control or understand yourself, it causes more stress than having both legs in a cast. Some of my folks who caught bad covid were completely lost because they just didn't get how this small shit rendered them nearly unable to breath. It's probably corresponds to some gender studies but I do too feel double uncomfortable when something like that occurs.
Limited amount of sick days? What if you're out? You're not allowed to get sick anymore?
Basically you are expected to either just go in sick or take the day and not be paid. Also if you take the day, depending on how bad your boss is they could try to call you a no call/no show. A strike at best or a reason for termination at worst.
You're often also responsible for finding somebody to cover your shift.
Like, why even have a manager?

When men catch a cold and get weak it's because of testosterone. Testosterone weakens the immune system and the more you have of it, the weaker you get. The evolutionary psychology explanation of why men who have a lot of testosterone still exist is that if a woman meets a man with high testosterone and he managed to stay alive, he must be very strong to survive his diseases.
