That name sounds like a stage name. You might want to consider something with a little less illiteration. And maybe I'm out of touch but a more typical first name maybe? "Vibia" sounds like a name that would have gotten made fun of in school when I was a kid. A lot. I tend to view names through that lens; even though I was bullied for other reasons. So while obviously you're not a kid in school, if you think about the life trajectory of somebody with a more unorthodox name, it might not be the best choice for you.

Ultimately though, it's your life, do what you want. My opinion is just my opinion and my suggestion is only that; a suggestion from some random guy on the internet.

I dont have a problem with it sounding like artistic or a stage name. In fact would be amazing to sign the things I write with that name. So it can be my chosen and artistic name.

And im 25 so lucky for me cant be bullied in school lol.

And typical names are boring. Good luck im not having kids so I dont get to name them.

TBH, it makes me think of the word "labia" but I'm probably in the minority on that. It's a perfectly fine name otherwise.

You aren't alone.... vibrator labia vibes for sure.

One the one hand, I don't care, pick a name you like. On the other hand, be aware.

[-] paysrenttobirds@sh.itjust.works 5 points 9 months ago

Yes, vibia is definitely the funny-bone of the female pelvis

Maybe I'm broken too, but that's what my brain read at first and was super confused.

That said if you like the name, you should go for it. Do what makes you happy and feel right.

I really like the first name! It's cute, it intuitively feels like a name while still being unorthodox and eye-catching, plus it reads Hispanic to me.

I will admit I kinda agree with another commenter that the alliteration gives off stage name vibes (Vibia Valentine would be a pretty good drag name), but if you vibe with that, you do you, Vibia! :)

Vibia? That's a pretty name. Does it come from somewhere special or do you just like the sound of it?

[-] vis4valentine@lemmy.ml 18 points 9 months ago

It is the first name of Vibia Perpetua, a pre catholic saint and martyr who is one of the "They were Roommates" historical figures. https://amedievalwomanscompanion.com/perpetua/

She is considered a saint of the sapphics and trans people, because she saw herself as a man in a dream.

BTW I'm not religious at all, it sounds great, starts with a V and the story is cool.

[-] Droggelbecher@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

Your name is so cool Vibia! I love the backstory, makes it even cooler. Btw do you prefer to be referred to by both your names or is Valentine your middle name?

[-] vis4valentine@lemmy.ml 2 points 9 months ago

Valentine is like my main thing, you know? My dead name is a hispanization of Valentine or Valentinus. I'm really attached to it. I'm still not sure if I want Valentine as a middle or Last Name. If I get some other Lastname, maybe it would be Lovelace. Or if I marry my BF (In my country we can't get married, so that most be done in another country), I would get his last name.

[-] vis4valentine@lemmy.ml 1 points 9 months ago

So, in short, I like how Vibia sounds with Valentine and the story is cool, and I like having it as a first name.

[-] JSocial@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 9 months ago

How you doin V2?

(That's how I'd use it typing unless requested otherwise... Plus I kind of like it)

[-] Mr_Reach@lemmy.world 6 points 9 months ago

Okay, I'm pulling a dumb, is it pronounced vib-ia or vibe-ia? Either way, solid name

[-] vis4valentine@lemmy.ml 6 points 9 months ago

Im Hispanic so for me it sounds Vib-ia.

[-] rezifon@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

vib-IA? like “Maria”

or

VIB-ia like “Lydia”

[-] vis4valentine@lemmy.ml 5 points 9 months ago

The second one. Truly explaining phonetics in english is hard.

[-] rezifon@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Awesome! I dig the name and really love the backstory you shared in another comment. Go live your best life!

Vibe-ia, like lay-bia?

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 5 points 9 months ago

Vaseline Valentine

Hey Vibia, you have a pretty name (tho autocorrect thinks it's Bianca or Vivian). FYI, if you have another name to try out, !mtf@lemmy.blahaj.zone could be a good place for that. There's sadly no !trans_tryouts yet.

[-] PuddingFeeling907@lemmy.ca 4 points 9 months ago

Good afternoon miss Vibia!

[-] violetraven@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 9 months ago

Oh my gosh, hi Vibia. How have you been?

[-] vis4valentine@lemmy.ml 4 points 9 months ago

I'm doing great! Thanks

[-] adora@kbin.social 3 points 9 months ago

I keep wanting to add an N in there and make it "Vibina" when I try and say it out loud. 😖

Would it be pronounced "vee-bee-uh" or "vye-bee-uh?"

[-] wizzwizz4@fosstodon.org 2 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I thought Vibia Valentine was breaking the rules with their post here, but apparently there's no "this is a meme sub for memes" rule here, so she's not going to make the mods sad or anything.

Edit: ooh, found it. Rule 6. (Oops, spoke too soon.)

Btw, Vibia, do you think you can add a transcription as alt text to your image? (If it lets you edit it in.)

Rules

1.) No bigotry of any kind, and don't be a jerk either

Bigotry includes but is not limited to: ableism, casteism, homophobia, lookism, queerphobia, racism, sexism, transphobia, and xenophobia. Bigotry towards non-binary people is transphobia. Truscum rhetoric is also bigotry. You getting punished for your hateful opinion, however, is not bigotry.

2.) No Spam

This includes both advertising and breaking your or my Lemmy instance's rules, such as vote manipulation or brigading.

3.) Posts must have something to do with being trans, or about trans experiences

Try to stay away from negative political events too. You can joke about it, but bringing attention to something bad happening in the world might take someone out of their comfort zone— this is an escape from the constant news cycle for some.

4.) No Selfies or Character Creations

Selfies are not memes! This is not a community for selfies. Picrews and other character creations such as Sims and Mii's are considered bandwagoning, and perhaps can be a part of a different community.

5.) SFW-only

This is an all ages community, so we prefer it if you take the NSFW stuff to one of the more adult oriented communities. Note: nudity is not allowed, we want everybody to be comfortable here.

6.) Submissions must be a meme or they will be removed
7.) Swearing is fine, but slurs are not

We want everybody to feel safe and comfortable here, so even if you want to reclaim a pejorative word that applies to you— we ask that you don't, as this is a light-hearted community and others stumbling across your post might feel unsafe.

8.) Embedded submissions should only link to trusted image sharing sites, no IP grabbers or link shorteners
9.) Use but don't misuse the report button

If something breaks these rules, or this Lemmy instance's rules, please report it.

10.) Please do not link to any terf, racist, or any other hate communities or forums

Bigots like those do not deserve any attention. Any post or comment linking to a hate community or forum will be removed

11.) Don't be a jerk nor a troll

Be nice, and don't create social chaos. That's it. Pretty simple, huh?

Some notes:

1.) We highly encourage you to use alt text in your posts, so everybody can enjoy this community
2.) It would be really nice if you flaired your posts accordingly in the title

For example, a meme about the non-binary experience could have a title like this: "[NB] Story of my life!" This will make searching for content much easier.

3.) Don't break the law

This includes the country you live in as well as the country your instance is hosted in

Sibling forums:

!egg_irl

Trans memes specifically about being closeted, unaware or in denial

!196

Ordinary memes, but the community is very trans-accepting— and it only has one rule: when you encounter the page you must post a meme from your camera roll
