Rule 1:

Sexy pirate John Oliver artwork ONLY

Now I have been there for around 4-5 months and Reddit just killing piracy over there and making it a rule uploading this bullshit sucks.

It is not really a useful sub anymore, get off.

Yes I will be active on her though. It is the only useful thing now.

Do you think they just want to troll you?

Have you really not read one of the many stickied posts all over Reddit about the blackout and what the admins are going to do to that website?

[–] Snowpix@yiffit.net 7 points 1 year ago

Yeah, that's literally the entire point. If the subs are unusable, site traffic falls, Huffman makes less money and looks worse to the investors, and people find better alternatives like here.

[–] thesanewriter@vlemmy.net 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's honestly hilarious Reddit bungled this so badly as to upset everyone. Ah well, at least with this digital piracy community I can rest assured a corporation isn't censoring discourse.

[–] Oneobi@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Elon has shown the way to spectacularly self destruct!

[–] icongnu@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 year ago

Just the quality of replies and posts here over the old sub, is honestly alone worth the move.

[–] great_meh@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 1 year ago

Arr, take my wooden peg!

[–] sternail@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Reddit is probably going to be happy about the protest in this sub. Can't imagine that investors like the sub about getting stuff for free...

[–] RomanRoy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I mean, the sub was closed and Reddit forced it to reopen, so there is an argument they do endorse piracy

[–] gsa32@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I still can't believe Reddit actually decided to do that. I thought they were going to ban the sub or keep it closed.

[–] thenonymousrexius@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I figured given all the other subs to force back open, they should've just not risked the potential bad-press of appearing to endorse digital piracy right before going public as a company, and just stayed quiet and said nothing.

[–] TheDeadGuy@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

I imagine that they are doing this to more than just the piracy sub and it's widespread across reddit communities

[–] Exilfranke@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

The power of Reddit lies within its very diverse and many communities on special interests. People browsing r/piracy also browse the Frontpage, r/all and so on. But mainly their special interests is what kept them there. Because funny memes can be found everywhere.

Now, if those special interests are not being served any more, people will go elsewhere. So no, I don't think they will be happy and investors won't be either.

Active on her? She's a lucky lady 😂

[–] user@lemmy.one 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Piracy and privacy guides, two main reasons why I'm here. Arggg 🤣

[–] Zednix@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago

I didn't use /r/piracy, but I do read this forum

[–] fell@ma.fellr.net 4 points 1 year ago

@hyperio The great thing is, I don't even have to sign up. I just follow this sub (do you still call it a sub?) from my #Mastodon!

Ahh, bless the #Fediverse.

[–] azron@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Ich war dabei. Los Piraten!

[–] Gabbro@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It won't be the same without RARBG. 😭

[–] nicman24@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

i still miss isohunt and mininova

[–] Zefrem23@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago

Mininova? I still miss Suprnova!

[–] kronicmage@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 year ago

Wow haven't heard those names in ages

[–] Markoff@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

yeah, consistently great 1080p X265 releases you could rely on them, this was a big loss for me, nobody release that many X265 releases that fast, PSA only mainstream, megusta only TV shows, everything else either too slow or too rare

[–] DunkinCoder@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I've even ventured back to IRC for some things. This Reddit explosion has opened all sorts of old doors for me, it's very refreshing.

[–] PunchEnergy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm afraid to ask, but why John Oliver?

[–] Contend6248@feddit.de 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

He makes Last Week Tonight which is a show with a big reach, Reddit-Mods are essentially pinging him.

He did respond on Twitter with a dump of sexy pictures of him to post.

The show is on pause because of the writers-strike at the moment, so it might take a while for this to be a topic.

[–] Sp00ky94@lemmy.fmhy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

I wasn't sure if the writers strike was still happening. Earlier today I did search on YouTube for his segment on the reddit situation to see what he had to say.

Let's do it then

[–] Zuberi@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago

Steer clear of the propaganda pit that is kbin imo

[–] paulie420@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Yes yes yes; I'll join and participate!

[–] webghost0101@lemmy.fmhy.ml 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Quick question, how does this piracy community compare with fmhy?

[–] hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.fmhy.ml 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Fmhy are just providers of the instance and that's what their general communities focus on. For information regarding the high seas, this is the community you want to look into.

[–] darkstar@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No actually fmhy is technically a "competitor" to this community if you want to call it that. I personally think fmhy has a better megathread than this one due to it being updated much more frequently, but essentially both communities are similar.

[–] Poiar@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago

Either one community will become big and the other small.

Or, the two communities will start going into niches (like, one being more focused on movies and the other games)

And seeing as you can subscribe to both, I assume that these communities will assist each other.

The strength of federation is that you have no "one-true-community" anymore. If one gets sick (I.e. Reddit) you have other safe havens to take over

[–] solidsnake2085@lemmy.world -3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

The whole John Oliver thing is just awful. Glad to be moving here for good when Sync shuts down.

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 year ago

That's kinda the point of the John Oliver thing

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Sync is moving to Lemmy!
