MiniDiscs is probably the most futuristic medium ever designed.

The bright colors, the shiny discs, the small formfactor and the cool design of the players, all still look futuristic.

I am sad that I never got into the format...

You never did because (the rumor was) physical space was a lot more limited in Japan where these were a useful upgrade over full sized CDs.

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 months ago

That was a stupid rumor....

Too bad Sony murdered it by insisting on keeping it proprietary, just like so many of their other formats.

And Memory Stick, and Betamax, and probably a few others I don't even remember.

Ugghh their memory sticks. So expensive and so slow for the day.

I don’t miss Sony memory sticks.

That's how I've been listening to my tunes lately! I've got a dozen minidiscs in my bag with me at work right now. Current player of choice is the MZ-B10.

I threw away my whole collection in 2010, one of the biggest mistakes in my life.

Dude, what were you thinking?

Relent the advert for them featuring Reef , thought they were going to be the new led zeppelin! They were the coolest thing though, the recordable player and all, always loved sony stuff.

No, I mean yes of course I remember them, but I never had one even tho I lusted for a player. Yet another technology I missed out on, which is probably a good thing because it's dead and would have wasted money, but is also definitely a bad thing because of how cool the technology is.
