Ebikes, scooters, longboards: Whatever floats your goat, this is all things micromobility!

"Transportation using lightweight vehicles such as bicycles or scooters, especially electric ones that may be borrowed as part of a self-service rental program in which people rent vehicles for short-term use within a town or city.

micromobility is seen as a potential solution to moving people more efficiently around cities"

It's a little sad that we need to actually say this, but:

Don't be an asshole or you will be permanently banned.

Respectful debate is totally OK, criticizing a product is fine, but being verbally abusive will not be tolerated.

Focus on discussing the idea, not attacking the person.

Read the article to see what they meant by that, and it's literally just a gps tracker built into it. Like that's gonna make it unstealable...

Wrap that fucker in tinfoil until you get it in a bigger faraday cage to disable it.

“Is” [proceeds to talk about crowdfunding]

It’s not a product until it’s on the market.

Yeah, crowdfunding gets an automatic no from me even if it's the best looking product I've ever seen. Too many people get burned by crowdfunding.

[–] dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 3 points 3 months ago

I feel that way even more when it’s an existing company and crowdfunding can be (in part) market research.

Cummuter bikes don't need to be light, they need to hold laptops and be reliable.

If you don't live on the first floor and don't have an elevator, it matters a lot. There's zero chance I'd use my current ebike if I weren't living on the bottom floor. I cannot reliably safely do that. Doing basic maintenance is much harder due to the weight than for aluminum or carbon acoustic bikes, which is necessary to keep a bike reliable and safe to ride. And when you do fall, it has a lot more momentum to hurt you.

They need to be light, storable, and reliable
