If you use up toothpaste in 6 weeks you are using waaaaay too much: You need no more than a pea sized dot twice a day.

[–] FartsWithAnAccent@lemmy.world 17 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, I agree with this guy.

You're just the Lemmy version of me, obviously biased.

[–] FartsWithAnAccent@lemmy.world 14 points 9 months ago (2 children)

You think you're better than me over there on Mbin?

[–] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 3 points 9 months ago

Damn skippy fella!

[–] Gabu@lemmy.ml 8 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Thrice a day*, but otherwise yeah.

[–] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 12 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Looks like someone is gunning for extra stickers from the dentist...

[–] TheDarksteel94@sopuli.xyz 4 points 9 months ago

Pfff, I bet they floss every day too...

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 1 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Whut. When are you brushing?

[–] Omgarm@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Hopefully at least 30 minutes after eating.

[–] Gabu@lemmy.ml 1 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

On waking up, after lunch and after dinner. I, specifically, also brush with toothpaste after breakfest and afternoon tea. That's a personal choice and not a recommendation.

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

That seems like a lot. I thought the thing was just morning and before going to bed, with xylitol gum for after eating

[–] Gabu@lemmy.ml 1 points 9 months ago

That's pretty standard in Brazil, but then again, we're known for being excessively clean.

[–] OpenStars@startrek.website 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I only do it once a day even - the flossing part before bed is by far the most important iirc.

[–] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Floss and brush before bed is probably most important, yeah, but I feel gross if I don't brush in the morning. If I'm feeling lazy and my mouth feels relatively clean, I'll use mouthwash but usually it's toothpaste.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I think it's the opposite - I only brush in the morning, no cavities, one slightly cracked tooth (tiny enough to leave alone, my dentist had the same issue, and my outcome is better than his was - he needed a crown, my teeth are all natural)

Brush your tongue - that's key. Brush your teeth when your mouth feels gross, like when you wake up or if you don't eat all day. Floss promptly if you feel something stuck in your teeth.

Don't use mouthwash if you don't need it... Cultivate a good microbiome if you want good health - mouth and gut.

My teeth aren't pearly white, they're natural off white. The year my dental report card jumped to an A+, I also started eating extremely spicy food... I'm pretty sure the tongue brushing was the bigger deal, but the two trends started the same year

[–] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I use a tongue scraper, works great!

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I just use the back of the toothbrush - most of them have a scraper on the back these days... Better than the type I used to use - they were hard to clean and the groves would get nasty

My sister swears by this flexible metal blade-like style though, I've never tried it but she got my mom to use it

[–] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 1 points 9 months ago

Mine is all metal: Works well and is easy to clean

[–] lhamil64@programming.dev 1 points 9 months ago

I learned this when I got an electric toothbrush. It only has room for about a pea sized blob and it's surprising how far it goes.

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 37 points 9 months ago (2 children)

You must use a lot of toothpaste to finish a tube in 2-6 weeks

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 12 points 9 months ago

Nah I just brush super thoroughly ~~I live with my family~~

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

One tube of toothpaste lasts me 14 months. I'm not joking. I started a new one January 2023 and It just ran out at the beginning of March 2024.

because you know how the instructions on the tube say that small children only need a "pea-sized" amount of toothpaste? well the same is true for adults.

[–] davel@lemmy.ml 24 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Toothpaste commercials put comically large amounts onto toothbrushes to fool people into buying several times more than they need.

[–] Sanguine@lemmy.world 10 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Little tip: use the edge of your counter to flatten it out nicely (just grab the bottom part and run it against the edge, both sides)

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Agreed, leading into a quick personality test:

Do you squeeze from the back cleanly, or do you just make a fist around the middle like a subhuman animal?

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 1 points 9 months ago

The former, as I'm sure most distinguished individuals on Lemmy do.

[–] Asudox@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago

Men when no nut november ends.

[–] brianorca@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

When you have a few inches flat at the end, fold it over and tape it. Repeat as needed.

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 3 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

That an idea. I was considering using a hydraulic press

[–] Player2@lemm.ee 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Try tablets, less waste and less messy

Sounds like a not great alternative

[–] Player2@lemm.ee 1 points 9 months ago

I have not seen a consensus that they are not as effective, and they have definitely been great for me personally. Once you dissolve it in your mouth, it's literally the same thing as traditional paste: same active ingredients, foaming, the lot.

[–] Player2@lemm.ee 1 points 9 months ago

Interesting report, though for me they have been just as if not more reliable than paste. Been using them for a few years exclusively and my oral health has actually improved, though that might be coincidence.

Either way, the most important benefit for me is the lack of a plastic package. I just put the tablets in my old metal tin, very efficient!

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 1 points 9 months ago

Woah never knew this existed

[–] robotica@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Probably commented on the wrong thread

[–] Player2@lemm.ee 1 points 9 months ago

No actually, sorry for being unclear

[–] Player2@lemm.ee 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Toothpaste tablets. Pop one in mouth, chew, instant toothpaste. So nice to travel with too since they're dry

[–] altima_neo@lemmy.zip 2 points 9 months ago

I've never heard of it, interesting.
