All the time, it doesn't happen when you sort comments by Old or New, though.

I remember this from reddit, but on there it was because some bot messed up and started posting conversations that didn't make any sense

Yeah, IIRC someone mentioned that this is actually a Lemmy bug and not a sync bug...
