That's why they joined the GOP in the first place - to feel at home with people on the same mental level.

Absolutely. Being an idiot or, more frequently, willing to and skilled at pretending to be an idiot, is very much a requirement for holding office on the GOP ticket. That, and being fundamentally corrupt and dishonest, of course.
