It’s just so hard to imagine because all our land here is getting developed.

There is a lot of development going on, yes, but damn do you have a skewed idea of what 'all the land' actually entails. Oh, not the US as a whole. But around where I live. There were discrete cities/towns with land between. Now it's just all people, there is no in between.
