IIRC, this was because the user in question had set a recovery email for their account, which Proton either volunteered or was forced to give to the authorities. Definitely crappy behavior on Proton's part. Don't set a recovery email!

Do you need to go back? What exactly are you going back from? Is it not serving your needs? There are plenty of alternatives to Google services; I'd be happy to provide some suggestions, if you'd like, having been through this ever since The Snowden Affair.

AFAICT, it looks like all he's doing is praising Trump's pick for AG in the Antitrust division . . . although if you look over her Wikipedia page, you're right, it doesn't look all that encouraging.

Can someone on Mastodon ask the Proton CEO what it was exactly that she did that he likes so much? Anyone who can work at Fox for any length of time, frankly, is complete and utter shite.

I agree! I don't use Proton's VPN or their password manager for that reason. The equivalents I had in place already were fine and I didn't feel the need to switch over everything, just some things.

You could look at infomaniak, but I didn't have the best experience trying out (or even getting started with) their services. Finding a provider that has all of Proton's apps is going to be tough (or at least it was from me while I was looking to escape from Tuta). Good luck, tho.

EDIT: Infomaniak is on F-Droid!

Did he (the CEO) really need to do this? Orange 🍄 Guy's probably never even heard of Proton. The transition for me from Tuta to Proton was long and rough, so I'm not prepared to jump ship just yet and really hope I won't have to.

Guess the title says it all.

That reminds me, I think I remember reading on the FreeTube page that they recommended using a VPN with it (this was before the current issues with Mullvad); anyone know why? Are FreeTube users in any danger of being hunted down by Sundar Pichai & co.?

Much to reflect upon! Thanks to @Slab_Bulkhead@lemmy.world (you aren't by any chance serving on the Southern Sun at the moment, are you?) and @zedcell@lemmygrad.ml.

Yeah, same here! I have to turn off Mullvad when watching FreeTube which is definitely annoying.

I really hope the answer is "yes," but gosh-darned if I can find one. The FreeTube app still works as long as my VPN is off, but as for Invidious . . . (also, sorry if this has already been covered earlier).

I see what the cartoon says (from Introducing Hegel), but would like to hear more about recognition.

Possibly Odoo . . . ?

Was doing multiple things at the time, so not sure about this—I think I restarted it but then it wouldn't start up again. Holding down the power button didn't help, nor did holding down the power button along with either the up or down volume for a few seconds. Plugging it in, it does make the "started charging" noise or whatever.

Would be much obliged for any suggestions on how to get this working again!

UPDATE: Well, and it just rang! Maybe the screen died . . . ?

UPDATE UPDATE: Well new friends, it looks like I'm now officially in the market for a new phone. Since I like GrapheneOS, I guess I need to buy another Pixel which hopefully won't crap out on me after 3 years like this one has just apparently done. But which Pixel should I get? As long as it's comparable in functionality to the 5a5g . . .
