Right, but if you’re telling the software to encode a file as UTF-8 maybe the software should actually encode it as UTF-8.

Oh don’t get me started on SQL Server either. That’s the most maintenance-heavy, hands on approach I’ve ever seen. “Do one thing and do it well” doesn’t apply, you’ve got to manage every dumb knob that shouldn’t matter to you as an end-user.

Yet as a developer I’m expected to deal with crazy stuff like ASCII, weird encoding standards for email, Punycode, etc. but MySQL developers couldn’t figure out how to encode characters properly while dumping the database?

I guess what gets me is that it’s writing to a UTF-8 file so you’d expect that file to contain UTF-8 only. Hell, I’d take UTF-8 with Base64 encoded data for binary data over the hodgepodge .sql file coming out of the thing.

Oh I completely agree, but I’m tasked with dealing with a variety of database servers in my work.

Me too (exact same year)! It weirds me out when people are like “you never went back to the office?” Back? Why would I go in the first place? 🤣

This is great but I don’t understand the six inch Subway sub reference

Oh ffs, not even veganism will save me anymore? Thought I was doin’ good avoiding all the diseased dead animal crap.

I used to heavily disagree with this, but since I started ripping both 1080p and UHD Blu-rays losslessly (AKA, just dump their decrypted contents) I’ve been blown away with what can be done in 1080p — my most recent example would be Severance. My only gripe is that it isn’t HDR10+ but I can live with it.

It’s a pet-peeve of mine and I haven’t forgotten

Yeah, something like “it’s here” or “here it is.” With the proper accents the phrase is “aquí está.”

I moved out at 18 and haven’t relied on my family for anything since. It’s not that I hate them; in fact I’m very close to my family but it’s just expected that that’s what you do.

Granted, that was in the Midwest where I could afford a brand new apartment on minimum wage. I’m not sure how I would’ve done this in California (where I live now).
