The CIA as Organized Crime by Douglas Valentine (not about the mexican cartels specifically but about how they utilized the very same blueprint down to a t in Operation Phoenix in Vietnam and exported that model pretty much everywhere the US had its hands in)

This is great but I don’t understand the six inch Subway sub reference

It's a play on "my brother in Christ, you made the sandwich". It's just a template for people complaining about shit they're responsible for.

And why use this meme if it's for replacing 90% of the words on it

[–] Grapho@lemmy.ml 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

That's literally how this template is, though. It's basically a madlib.

US: Funds cartels which increases the illegal drug trade in their own country

Also US: Hands out ridiculously heavy sentences for simple possession and use of drugs

Also US: Uses the private prison system to profit off prisoners by essentially selling them as slave labour

Also US: Actively makes the lives of ex cons hell with little prospect for reintegration into society which only makes them more likely to turn back to crime and end up right back in a private prison

Pretty genius if you ask me /s

Also US: Healthcare system is so shitty, poor people have to self medicate using illegal drugs.

Surely you don't mean the system requires a deserving underclass to do menial necessary work at exorbitant and exploitative profits and that pushing that underclass to foreign countries by shoring up (and then attacking) their criminal elements (with assassinations and bombings) to maximise their brutality and weaken the state by leaving the mess up to them to deal with.

Surely you jest, the good guys wouldn't do something like that right?

To quote System of A Down - "They're tryin' to build a prison for you and me to live in"

The mexican narcos were utilized by the CIA in the Iran-Contra affair to smuggle cash and weapons into Nicaragua and in return they smuggled coke via CIA planes into US airports where it could be distributed with impunity. The CIA has also been involved in using organized crime as barely-distanced proxies in pretty much every region of the world, as outlined by Douglas Valentine in "The CIA as Organized Crime" in which he explores operation Phoenix among others mostly via CIA officers bragging on the record to him.

In the book, an agent says the CIA doesn't do anything it can't possibly provide plausible deniability for, and sure enough, when Camarena got whacked after uncovering some uncomfortable shit for the CIA and Proceso claimed they were involved, it was deny deny deny. Until it was shown that CIA operatives participated and then it was deny that the CIA itself ordered it, not that there were CIA ops involved. Former CIA agents, such as ex Director of the Intelligence Center in El Paso Phil Jordan have asserted as much
