Hey all, I'm looking to build a couple dashboards out around my house. I've done this before with rokchip boards and they are... fine, but not great. Is rpi the best option right now? Are there alternatives you really like? I'd like to keep it a single board to easily mount behind things where it doesn't take up a lot of space, and I won't lie I like the DIY feeling of it over something like a thin client.

Hi all, looking for some help with the Jellyfin Media Player.

For background, I've used Plex for years, and I've had it working well. I'm trying out Jellyfin because of all of the reasons you're already thinking of.

One issue I'm having - I like uncompressed 4K HDR. I'm trying to play a large movie, one Plex direct plays perfectly fine to my HTPC. (2.5GB networking through and through, direct access, all the basics have checked). However Jellyfin Media Player seems to stutter and drop frames.

Not like "It stops and buffers", but more like playing a video game and it drops down to 15fps. Is there a setting somewhere I'm missing to enable GPU support or something? I toggled OpenGL on and off and it didn't seem to have an effect.

Video says it's direct play, no transcode. Not sure what else it could be beyond hardware acceleration?

Hi all, looking for good open (self hosted) money management apps. Similar to mint, I want a single pane to view my accounts at a high level.

There's some things online that still do it, but they make me really nervous just handing one company the keys to all of my accounts with how many breaches there are. That being said, they're convenient because I never know what accounts have what balances all at once.

Any ideas for systems that do this? Either running locally or ideally something that I could host locally?

And oh my god what a difference. Watched Fargo (1996) in 4k HDR on it and it blew me away how great it looked! I thought it would be a minor step up from an LED LCD but it was simply amazing.

Heads up too, if you're casually in the market, I worked at Best buy for years and can say Superbowl is the best time to buy. People think it's black Friday but that's just when they hock cheap crap. Superbowl is when they actually mark down the quality tvs. Saved 600 bucks or so!

If only they would have reached out this way the first time instead of a cease and desist, their brand getting dragged through the mud could have been avoided.

I'm not really big on "let's make a movement", but this independent dev has been hit with a cease-and-desist from making a FOSS Home Assistant addon for their Haier air conditioners.

Haier claims that they are losing out on millions of dollars due to this plugin which... lets you control their air conditions from home assistant. They haven't bothered to explain how that's possibly worth millions of dollars - they're just claiming it.

So of course they hit the Streisand button and are demanding that he takes it down. He of course is complying... in a couple of days. Maybe you see where this is going.

It would be an absolute shame if any of you just happened to create a fork, or clone the code, or mirror it in your own instance. An absolute shame.

(sidenote: Haier owns GE Appliance, so for our American folks it may affect you folks too)

Simple as that, I have a few GPUs hanging around and I want to build a GPU node for my kubernetes cluster. I already have one, GPUs are attached and it can do cool things like transcoding plex easy enough, but I'm starting to look to the horizon for my next big projects.

So, dream machine, how could I accomplish building a big ol' server with the GPUs I have hanging around and maybe a new one?

What CPU/Mobo, and maybe most important, power supply, would you recommend for running maybe even 4x GPUs? Or maybe just 3 and I'm being crazy.

Won't be building tomorrow like I said, but I just thought of this and was like "man, I bet not a lot of consumer hardware would support this..."

Please, before posting, we've seen a lot of these post saying X instance is down right now, or "is X instance down?". The answer is probably, but it's probably because Lemmy v0.19 dropped and it includes some downtime, upwards of an hour for all the migrations to finish.

Usually my process is very... hammer and drill related - but I have a family member who is interested in taking my latest batch of hard drives after I upgraded.

What are the best (linux) tools for the process? I'd like to run some tests to make sure they're good first and also do a full zero out of any data. (Used to be a raid if that matters)
