Same attitude as the people who are like "universal income should be a norm" and "dismantle US healthcare". Like yes I agree, but you can't just turn off an entire industry overnight. It takes years, if not decades to change.

Then when incremental progress is made they shut on it for not doing enough.

I'm all for removing fossil fuel use, but removing 20% here and there is a lot better than rejecting everything. It's juvenile to me to think that it's either gone or it's not, and it's the same here. Ads aren't going away, it's a naive thought to think they will. What we can do is try to make changes here and there to make it more tolerable.

If the two unpopular candidates were perfectly equal then your argument might have weight, but in my book there's one that's horrible, and one that's not great, but also not horrible.

Politics never has a good candidate, it's always between two bad choices. It's just choosing the best of the two.

Exactly, the reason it happened is because we became complacent to the point where the only way to win votes for them was to win the craziest sector, they knew everyone else would just keep voting (or not voting). They campaigned constantly because people would froth at the mouth over it and they knew they were single issue voters.

If the 1/3 of the people who don't vote showed up in this election it could actually make a huge difference, hell it could show that the parties need to rethink their entire strategies. They still won't though, but they should.

1/3 of the possible voting populace doesn't vote because they are told it won't make a difference, when the last presidential election came down to a few thousand votes. Bugs the hell out of me.

If "woke" you mean we don't tolerate intolerance, meaning racism, homophobia, hate, or belittling - then absolutely you're right. Lemmy has been extremely welcoming, we're not a 4chan replacement, views like that aren't welcome here.

No. We may all be Americans, but MAGA is an alt-right hateful term, and I will never align myself with that.

We can align as Americans and condemn violence, but that means condemning all violence.

Yup watched the episode while I was reading that comment, thought hey now, that's a meme.

You're right... but....

Top: Seinfeld, woman handing George the binder of wedding invitations, with top caption saying "They're in order of popularity, the best memes are in the front". Bottom: George immediately flipping to the back

OC meme made just for you

Talking to the admin of a pop music instance there bud.

Great, so we can enjoy it for a couple of years before they turn the servers off

I am actively working on trying to be better than the older generation. I love how unique gen z is, how they truly believe everyone have value, their beliefs, their morals. I have hope they will be better than us

Not that I use them anymore anyway, cancelling my old account, but name and shame any companies who conveniently can't support their free base. Also - it's VNC. It's a protocol. There's a dozen free clients out there.

Forgive the hastily made meme. All too common with us engineers.

I just got this email from Reddit, and I just realized it's been a year now since I swapped over here, and I haven't thought about awards once. I always thought they were gimmicky and a way for people to throw away money. It's just really nice not worrying about them.

(I also have participated more in BuyMeACoffee and Patreon over here now, and I think my money is better spent that way)

Also, what is with that exponential scale, so screw you if you're a big time user apparently? And the expiration? The whole thing has corpo stink on it

Always call out Cloudflare for their bullshit. For those working for companies in devops, share this with your teams...

Interesting problem here. So I self host jellyfin, happy to share my (owned) movies with my family. Well, my mother has asked me to digitize her collection too and have me host it. Originally, fine, you give your movies to me, I host them, same thing.

However, what I didn't bet on was the amount of garbage, terrible movies she would give me. There's a few that are fine, but the vast majority are, well I'll just put it bluntly, christian propaganda. I don't think any of them are as terrible as some of the worst case, but think "My life was horrible until I found god now look and see how fulfilled I am" type propaganda - and they make for horrible plots. Left Behind with Kirk Cameron is a good example. Even removing the blatent boring christian plots - it's just a horribly made movie. Cheap, not thought out well, and honestly I read the book decades ago, it's a horrible adaptation too.

Not that I keep only top tier movies in my libraries, but these are, well they just bring a pit to my stomach.

What would you do in my situation? (And I'm going to go ahead and say the pure atheist comments aren't needed, yes of course I could burn them, or dance around them, but I'm not looking to just burn the bridge between my mother and myself over a lifetime of her indoctrination and bad taste in movies). I'm more looking for generic, how do you handle your users asking you to put content you don't find appealing on your server?
