Im on the fence with this. If i were king i feel like 1 a year could be fine. But that would mean rich people would also have to follow that. If you cut down on those ridiculous daily 5 minute private jet flights it wouldnt be the massive problem it is now.

Airbnb is a different subject. Shouldnt exist imo

You got downvoted but it is a fair question. I hope sustainability is started to be talked about more in the travel sector

Why? Biden literally made it illegal for rail workers to strike

Could I do it on an old computer running Windows? You should be able to but doing it on linux could be easier

Or rould my modern home computer be the server Possibly but would not recommend it

The computer acting as a server would need to be on, and online all the time for me to access the files? This is correct and also why cloud hosts usually have different locations hosting the same thing to provide backup in case of power down or other problems

Would I be able to stream large files (video, audio, etc.) in real-time? Yes this should be possible but your homes internet or whereever youre keeping the server and its distance from where you access it will change speeds of doing that

Would I need to add an SSD if I use the old PC Not a need, i prefer to but i think opinions on this are mixed

I have a similar experience, but its like a user base of 200k vs idk how many million on reddit. There wont be an infinite amount of posts until lemmy grows more.

I think only 1 percent of all users on lemmy and reddit post. So its 2k active posters vs 60k active reddit posters (assuming reddit has 6m).

The sorting has been bad i also see dead posts but overall im enjoying lemmy more than i had reddit in the later years (joined 2010).

With that said, i think it is the hardest it has ever been in this industry to get a job in tech. If im being honest i think a lot of these stories are giving false hope at this point. It may turn around, but right now its tough out here
